Are ghost directed by George Lucas and the credited directors on them don’t mean much?

Jedi, probably. Empire clearly has someone with more visual flare and better with actors at the helm.

No, but the directors are definitely following George's vision for those movies.

No. They have a somewhat different vibe to the first movie. Feels like someone else is behind the camera. Esp. with The Empire Strikes Back.

No, definitely not. It's an insult.
If I directed Empire Strikes Back and someone thought of me as merely a credited director who doesn't mean much, I'd tell them to fuck off.

George Lucas gave Irvin Kershner free rein over The Empire Strikes Back and was too occupied with establishing Skywalker Ranch to interfere. However, he was heavily involved in the post-production process on both films, supervising the editing and special effects. He was definitely a shadow director on Return of the Jedi. Richard Marquand directed the actors of course, but Lucas was also on set looking over his shoulder.

Marcia Lucas and Gary Kurtz were there on TESB-- not present on Jedi.

Marcia Lucas and Gary Kurtz were there on TESB-- not present on Jedi. That's only partially true. Marcia did some uncredited editing for The Empire Strikes Back, but she actually worked on Return of the Jedi.
