I disagree with him. I don’t think it’s over. It’s just changed. It’s true that there really are no longer any big movies that everybody goes to see and talks about. However, people still watch movies. There’s still money to be made.

The movie business is evolving. Movies will continue, how we see them may change. It already has. Considered myself such a purist not long ago, but hard to resist new movies being streamed into your home by some major players. The theater will always be the prime and preferred method but nothing wrong with more modern options. Seriously, would you really want to go back to the video stores, with their return times, late fees and wonky tapes/DVDs? Nope.

Almost half of Americans went to the movies in 1946. The last time a friend told me they saw a good movie in the theater was "American Beauty"! And I stupidly turned down the invitation. Besides the internet, when I talk to friends/family, I'll ask, "Have you seen any good movies lately?" and the answer is almost always no.. A good portion say they can't focus anymore, which might be why movies are becoming dumber. On one site, I look at all the movies that are rated well, and most of them are very old movies.
