In light of Mother's Day today, I've been thinking about director Elia Kazan's debut film, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1946). It's a special one. Under his direction the performances are uniformly wonderful and reveal so much about the frailty and the goodness of our humanity. An auspicious debut for Kazan, and a lovely tribute to the difficulties of motherhood.
Happy Mother's Day to those who are still with us and to those who are gone.

One of my all-time favorites, beautifully directed by George Stevens: Interesting side-note: Marlon Brando made his 1944 Broadway debut playing young Nels in the play.

I watched "Gorgo" last night - that's a good Mother's Day film, his giant mother dinosaur wreaks havoc on London and rescues her baby boy.

Only seven posts, spider, and that includes witches, psychopaths and dinosaurs. Mothers are so last century.
