or at least try to dissuade - your significant other from wearing, as he or she would look absolutely ridiculous in it?

I don't have a so and when I did they were basically bland as vanilla... although one was so obsessed over his height [or lack thereof] he forbade me from wearing any sort of shoes with any type of heals. I told him 'it's not my fault you never ate your vegetables when you were growing up!'
I did have a friend in college who was engaged to a guy 10 years older than her who also went to school with us [long story] he had this four color striped leather-ette [looked like a car seat cover] jacket that he would constantly wear. the colors were white, light grey, darker grey and a grey blue. imagine my horror when I heard about the MATCHING PANTS!

Nothing for me. That's not something I'd do. If someone were to ask me if something is likely to draw a lot of attention to them or something like that, I'll give an honest answer, but I'm hardly someone who thinks that one should just blend in with the crowd. I often intentionally try to look ridiculous.

I would never forbid anyone to wear anything, I would just voice my vehement disapproval. I'm not particularly fond of schoolgirl-uniforms on grown-up women. I know some people find them sexy, personally I think they look silly, even a bit creepy.
