I really really dig this band. The ethereal quiver of Elizabeth Fraser is the best pull to liberate your creative side.

Y'know? They don't get the adulation that they should get.

Like Brian Eno, they singularly carved out a new branch in music. Shoegaze owes a lot to Cocteau Twins. Interestingly, they play a lot of Cocteau Twins in art-schools.

Love 'em. Saw them on the Heaven Or Las Vegas Tour, and they were great. Galaxie 500 opened.

It's a great album, but I like Treasure even more.

Quick Cocteau Twins story. I went up to the counter at a record store (remember those?) to buy the band's EP "Love's Easy Tears" and the girl behind the counter said she had heard of this band but never heard their music so she asked me if I could describe it. I said just look at the album cover. That's their music.

darkprofile, you actually posted a video of their greatest tune, "Lorelei."
By the way, here is their second greatest song: "The Spangle Maker." The slow build up to that amazing rush of sonic heaven at 3:30 is the band's best moment.

Since I first heard this, the opening lines have always been "Her honey monster's got me all fooled, boy"
Apparently the correct words are "I weigh my life and it's got me old fool gold"In The Gold Dust Rush

I'm not a huge fan, but I like parts of the first two LPs, and The Spanglemaker. I saw them live a few times in the early days. One of the many (ok, few) advantages of being Scottish. But I bought Treasure on the day it came out and thought it was shite, an assessment which hasn't changed in the ensuing decades. My brother loves them though. I remember you from the old Sports board. You weren't the brightest bulb over there and it looks like you've lost even more wattage. Uhh, the album "Treasure" contains probably the greatest artistic work over the past five centuries. The brilliant song "Donimo" is on that album. Maybe you cheaped out (you did say you are Scottish) and bought an album that didn't have all the songs. Go buck up and re-buy "Treasure" and make sure it has "Donimo" on it. Give that tune a listen and I dare you to come back here and say the album is shite.

Excellent band, fully capable of leaving the listener in ethereal wonderment. However it's the dark-leaning 'Garlands' that I like best.
