Excellent film and technically, it could have been made today and passed off as a period piece.
Pleased you had an opportunity to see it on the big screen, if it was your first time. It doesn't matter that Pacino was larger than life, it was also something viewers hadn't quite seen before presentation wise and it set a benchmark. Many critics at the time felt sledgehammered by the film, but they were just being precious ning-nongs.
to be honest I expected much more gore and violence based on everything i ever heard about it and was surprised how :mild: it was / compared to nowadays violent movies. i mean you never saw any of the killing REALLY on camera. the chain saw moment you only saw his face as a reflection of the horror / which WAS amazing directing / the stabbing was turned away from the camera and the rest were getting shot from far away or not really in any spectacularly gore way. but it was all SO cinematic. now get this, but DONT TELL ANYONE. I have never seen any of the Godfather movies. so thats next for me. I am imagining I will love those too. Al Pacinos star power was clear and clearly well deserved. honestly from the first scene at the detention center you could tell This Guy Is Insanely Talented.

It's got a hard edge with little substance... just like cocaine I guess. There's really absolutely no street business shown, just the guys at the top swimming in the money. Then again, 1983 was still fairly early in the war on drugs facade, so the idea everyone was a drug god in broad daylight can't be that too far fetched?
