Another great thing about this show was the fact that it was not a pure comedy. It was a true action comedy. People often got killed on the show and there were some good action scenes including some very good fight scenes. Yeah, I remember that too! Smart's adversary was often killed, (even Bill Cosby)! Unless it was Siegfried, he always got away!

Just finished watching season 2 of this show. My favorite scene was when a Control agent on the run from Kaos was trying to give Max some important information over the phone. Two Kaos agents come behind him and shoot him and he gasps, "I think they're on to me!" before collapsing. I also like Siegfried's "We don't _______at Kaos!" repeating gag.

I'd always tune into the repeats of this show on the TV (even have the first few seasons on DVD) - but I haven't watched the show in a really long time.
As previously mentioned, there people *did* die in the show, and I'm pretty sure Max shot his fair share of bad guys without blinking an eye - I like that. Despite the show being a 'comedy', it didn't shy away from there being actual casualties.
Max was always great. Don Adams made him exceedingly likeable, even when he'd make mistakes. I also loved his dynamic with 99 (Barbara Feldon was was very easy on the eyes in the role). I liked that 99 was often the one to think of a way to get them out of sticky situations.
It was always funny how exasperated the Chief would get with Max. Though I did like how, on occasion, he could seem very sincere regarding nice/positive things he said to/about Max, and no matter how made he'd get with him, I think he did care about him (and 99, of course). The three characters together were always a hoot. I also liked whenever Fang (Agent K-13) the dog would make an appearance and how Max cared for him.
Siegfried was also amusing, as was his exasperation with Starker. I only have a vague memory of it, but I think their was a scene in one episode where Max and Siegfried met on a park bench and were showing off their different gadgets/weapons from CONTROL and KAOS to each other. I really enjoyed that.
I too enjoyed the opening and closing credits. I'd always sit through them, as the theme was great to listen to/very catchy (and I remember the car from the intro changing from a red one to a blue one at some point).
I really should dig out those DVDs and watch the early seasons one of these days. It's a classic show.

Another recurring gag involved Max taking on an enormous KAOS goon, first by calling him "a big ape" or something, then hauling off and punching him across the jaw - with no effect. Undaunted, Max would slug him with all his might in the gut. Again nothing. Another shot at the chin - nothing. Then Max would sheepishly say, "Listen, I hope I wasn't out of line with that big ape remark." That's one of my favorite gags along with, "Would you believe(whatever the situation required)." If you ask me the whole show's hysterical.
