That would be, "In the time it takes you to walk 1 mile, I can bike 4.5 miles." Note that 3 mph is a relatively slow pace for walking though. Most people aren't going to have more than a 4 or 3.5 to 1 ratio of biking to walking. I guess the point I am making is you can cover a lot more ground riding a bike than walking. And riding you get to take in so much more great scenery. eh... that's great but many people on bikes fail to realize that they are in fact, a vehicle on wherever they are and should follow the state/city rules of the area. i don't know how many times i have been clipped by a cyclist going riding on the sidewalk, when they came up from behind me! and it is even worse in the country areas. i had to take a kind of back road to get to my graduate school and there was a part where there was a bike/hike path that crossed the road. they have the smallest stop sign ever imagined possible for this bike path [the bikes have to stop/yield] when it crosses paths with the road [keep in mind i mean country!] thank god i always remembered where this godforsaken bike path was because quite a few cyclists have been killed there because they didn't stop/yield to the country traffic. scenery is great but pay attention to where you are! to be honest, whatever you can do to get exercise, do it. anything's better than ending up on my 600 lb life.

Whoever the mayor of that city is should be fired. You say quite a few cyclists have been killed there. After the first person got killed they should have replaced that small stop sign with something like this. One death is bad enough but for city officials to let it keep happening and doing nothing is criminal IMO.

They have small towns and hamlets. But still, the bicyclists need to be aware they are controlling a vehicle on the road and they have to share the road with everyone. The stop sign is for the cyclists. It is on the bicycle path. They come screeching around that path aat top speed like they are mountain biking.

Walk for at least a mile every day. In the time it takes to walk one mile you could ride 10 miles.
As broken up as the roads are here, I'll take the 1 mile over risking hitting a pot hole and going head over handlebars.

I used to walk a lot, but the older I get, the less I'm able to do that. Now I find swimming to be best for me. It allows for exercise without putting weight on my joints.
I've always loved swimming, I could probably spend all day in the pool if I had the chance.

Got to agree with being outside in the fresh air.
A favorite of mine, badminton (with tennis rackets). Anybody who thinks that's not good exercise either hasn't tried it, or isn't playing with the right people, in a couple days you FEEL it.

When hunting rabbits, ring-neck or grouse I am walking the whole time. I like being in the woods anyhow so even if I don't get anything I still have a good time. If I do get something that is just icing on the cake.

IMO. Fresh air, fun and great scenery. (depending on where you ride) I love cycling. I do a lot of long distance charity bike rides for multiple sclerosis. It’s my bucket list to do all of them. Great way to see the country.

Great way to see the country. You bet. Fresh air, great exercise and the scenery is great. (depending on where you are biking) I just moved and have a lot of country roads to ride on with hardly any traffic. Love riding in the country past all the farms and fields.

My favorite locales for bike rides is of course Hawaii, but Vermont is breathtakingly beautiful in the fall. I’ve been there twice in the fall, and there is nothing like biking through those small towns, soaking up local culture.
