I just watched the original for the first time. I hope the sequels have a dumb cheesy slasher vibe to them.

2 is a great sequel...
3 is a good, but you can tell they were jumping the hype of the slashers of the Friday's...
4 is not bad, but at least they tried to go back the old formula of the original Psycho 1 & 2...

Psycho (original) - 9/10 Psycho II - 8/10 Psycho III - 7/10
Psycho IV - 4/10
Bates Motel (87) - 4/10
Psycho (remake) - 2/10
I only like the original cinematic trilogy, which holds together extremely well.
Psycho IV was needless more than anything. Why bother with some "alternate timeline" crap when the series was already so masterfully concluded by Psycho III?
Bates Motel TV movie from 1987 was quite bad but much more interesting because of its extremely outré nature.
The less said about the remake the better.

For me, Psycho is the only good one.

loved 'bates motel'
also thought III was a decent flick and IMO > II
first of course is a gem. one of my favorite horrors of all-time. rare a movie scares me - and like most - i've never gotten that shower scene out of my head. or the image of Mrs. Bates coming down the stairs to take care of the detective

I didn't wholly mind the remake, I just have no clue what he was trying to say by doing it.

Psycho II (1983) 8,5/10 - My favorite of the series, and the one I have watched most. Psycho (1960) 8/10 - A Classic, but not my favorite of the franchise. Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990) 6/10 - A fun and enjoyable ending of the series. Psycho III (1986) 5/10 - Not a very memorable film, and I felt it was very weak compared to the second one. I have no imediate plans on watching the 1998 remake, as I am not a big fan of either Gus Van Sant or Vince Vaughn. As I mentioned above in the rank/rating of the Psycho franchise, my favorite is Psycho II which was directed by the Australian filmmaker Richard Franklin, who shown that he was more than worthy to take up the almost impossible challenge on brining Norman Bates back on the screen, as he had done several solid and thrilling suspense/thrillers that was strongly influenced by the horror master himself, Alfred Hitchcock. Antony Perkins is back in action, and I am glad Franklin did not make the film out to try and "milk" the popular slasher genre, and instead went for a more "classy" style/tone, with some really great performances, specially by Perkins who I felt was very likeable, and I kind of felt sorry for him, still knowing what he did in the past, and might do again. Dennis Franz is great as the sleazy, dirtbag who now runs the Bates motel, and Robert Loggia does a fine job as the sympathetic Dr. Bill Raymond who tries to help Norman settle back into the real world. Also both Vera Miles and Meg Tilly delivers more than well, as the ladies with a bit of a grudge. The soundtrack/score is beautiful, and very haunting/sad, and one of my favorites from Jerry Goldsmith.

I loved Psycho II, it seemed like a true sequel with Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles back. Psycho III was a different animal, it went along with the 80's trend of more sleaze and gore, but adequate. I can barely remember Psycho IV: The Beginning, but would like to see it again to compare it to Bates Motel. BTW, there was a Bates Motel TV movie in the late 80's, it starred Bud Cort as a fellow inmate to whom Norman left the motel when he died. It was meant to be a pilot for a series, but it sucked too bad to continue, thankfully.

Psycho is obviously the best, but I like Psycho II and III a lot, I watched the first and final season of Bates Motel and didn't care for it.

The original Psycho is the best, of course. The second one was quite good, but I didn't care for the third one. The remake was just a travesty.

Psycho is of course brilliant. One of the best horror films ever. The second is okay but like all the sequels it pales in comparison to the first. perhaps I owe them each a rewatch. As for the remake, it's hard to fathom why after the career making success of Good Will Hunting, Gus Van Sant would derail his career just so the world could watch Norman Bates jerk off.

Psycho - 8.5/10 Psycho II - 7.5/10 Psycho III - 6.5/10 Psycho IV - 6/10
Remake - 4.5/10
But if we’re just choosing our favourite, is there really any contest?
