I'm quite fond of context, and find it inexpressibly crucial in interpreting a work of literature. Therefore, though I am somewhat partial to utilising formalism (specifically: new criticism) in my analyses, I most enjoy partnering it with historicist and psychoanalytic criticism.
Reader-Response is rubbish and should be cast aside with the remainder of the newest idea that "nobody is more important than me." At the end of the day, the author has the final word in what was intended by his/her work.
