Not my cup of tea, but Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasance and Lee Van Cleef in the same movie is always interesting. 7/10

8/10 - Nobody turns low budget films into cult classics better than John Carpenter.

10/10, a favorite since I saw it in a theater back when it came out. Escape from New York (1981) I totally agree here maxwellperfect and also gave this favorite JC now classic a vote of 10 as well . Unfortunately I never had the chance to see this one on the big screen . Although I'm hoping that my local Drive-In next year will show this film back to back with it's awesome sequel ( IMPO ) - Escape from L.A. (1996) . I also have both of these movies on DVD . Thanks so much maxwellperfect for your subject post .

I think this was the first Carpenter film I found a little disappointing compared to The Thing, Halloween and Assault on Precinct 13. 7/10

A-
A nice 80's action flick before the genre grew stupid & juvenile.

Might not be up there with The Thing (1982) as John Carpenter's finest hour, yet Escape has been among my top 3 favorite films of his, due to how much fun and the whole atmosphere, intense plot, always on the move, so many memorable characters, great villain and such a bad ass antihero.
Sadly the sequel just did not do much for me, a huge let down, and I always hope it might change for the better, but just keeps on stopping with a poor 5/10, where the 1981 film is a 10/10, and been so, for the past two decades since my first visit.

Yep, just did a re-watch, and still holds up almost perfectly. 10/10, maybe not as good as The Thing (1982) but the atmosphere is so damn satisfying, and not a single boring moment. If anything, tonights re-visit, was a bit of a reminder that I should probably look to upgrade my old DVD, as the picture quality seemed a bit "grainy", several times through, not that it mattered too much, but when it comes to certain special favorites, I usually double or tripple dip, every now and then. And Escape from New York is surely worthy a tripple-dip in my book.
