The BBC will announce the actor who will replace Peter Capaldi to become the 13th Doctor following the men's Wimbledon finals on Sunday, July 16. According to the Telegraph, the two leading contenders are Kris Marshall of "Death In Paradise" and Phoebe Waller-Bridge of the series "Fleabag" (which I have never heard of having lived forever in the U.S. southwest). Olivia Coleman is also in the running having worked with both Chris Chibnall (the new showrunner) and ex-Doctor David Tennent on "Broadchurch." Frankly, I don't care - and even hope - if Pearl Mackie (recently companion/friend Bill) can take over the title role. Romana once regenerated into the likeness of a person she knew (classic series-"Destiny Of The Daliks" (1979)), so could The Doctor
Frankly, I am pitching for Mackie, Waller-Bridge or Coleman. The time is long, long past for a woman, person of color, or woman person of color to become The Doctor. Conservatives can whine and bellyache all they want about the lose of a role for a White Male. I say, stop watching the show if it offends you. We are in the second decade of the 21st century, not the 1950s. If you are still living in the past, good riddance. The world has gone on and left you behind. History is against Conservatism.
If it turns out that we get just another white male, then I will hang on like I have for the last 33 years and watch, collect the DVDs, and hope for the best.

Will this be the LAST "The Doctor" as this will be the 12th and should be FINAL regeneration? Or has that changed since the CLASSIC series (the ONLY one I watch)?

I say, stop watching the show if it offends you. Is that you posting on here, Steven Moffet? Is that a challenge? Are you TRYING to get the diehard Doctor Who fan base to leave? The ratings haven't plummeted low ENOUGH for you yet? Seriously?

Olivia Colman has also worked with Matt Smith - in Doctor Who, the episode "The Eleventh Hour", Smith's first episode after regeneration.

Apparently Jodie Whittaker is the current favorite to be the next Doctor.

DW is on life support. I'm interested to see if the show will pull the plug on itself with an insane casting decision. I'm guessing it probably will.

I can' already tell you it won't be a woman. The BBC confirmed this. They said they wanted someone in the vein of Tennant and if they casted a woman the show would lose viewers and they didn't want that. That's why my bets are on Kris Marshall still.
