With Richard Pryor.
I saw this movie again this morning for the first time since I was 13 years old. It's hilarious.
I think racism was under control back then when people just made light of it. When you feel comfortable to make jokes about slavery, racism, and socioeconomic status, it kills those problems.
When we make it a monster, it gets sensitive and we all get offended too easily. Richard Pryor was trying to do for Racism in America what MEL BROOKS did for Jewish people and Nazi Germany.

I loved this movie when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in over 25 years though.

Just the whole premise of the movie is edgy. Gleason was a good choice. He and Pryor worked well together I thought.
