He has a totally legit claim, right? And he's smarter than any of the others in the running.

He has a totally legit claim, right? And he's smarter than any of the others in the running. He's definitely more intelligent and rational than others in the running. But I don't know if he has a totally legit claim. Do you subscribe to the theory that he is mad king's son?

But even if Ser Maury of House Povich steps forward with irrefutable proof of Tyrion's parentage, no one in Westeros would follow him as king.

So basically Gregg Popovich has royal blood and is a great great great^8 grandchild of Ser Maury? No wonder Ser Popovich is such a good commander for Spurs. Greatness lies in the blood!

Bottom line is, in the GoT world, it never comes down to legitimacy anyway, does it? The right to rule is unfailingly determined by whomever has the power or guile to vanquish the other claimants, and remove their heads.
Wouldn't it be a wonderful development if the masses woke to the idiocy of fealty to royals who rule by Divine Right, or because they own large reptiles and are fire-retardant?
It would be a great if the people clued in and insisted that the most intelligent and compassionate person among them rule.
I'd nominate Tyrion, though they could do worse than Varys, though the latter might be a tad too snoopy for some people's liking.

He would definitely do the best job at it. But I don't think that he really wants it. He doesn't seem to aspire to it.
