There are quite a few factors that make setting Captain Marvel in the 90's a fantastic idea, not the least of which is the fact that the 90's are only just now becoming truly nostalgic and they haven't really been explored in film yet in the way that decades like the 80's have.
But more importantly it answers a major question right off the bat. How was Carol Danvers going to have an entire solo adventure in between two Thanos centric Avengers movies. The answer is, she isn't.
Now it does pose other even more interesting questions, such as, where the hell has she been, and does she age, but those will be fun questions to answer within the film itself, and I can't wait.
A more immediate interest is the appearance of Nick Fury, and his left eye. I'm reminded of a line he had in Winter Soldier, where he said, "The last time I trusted someone I lost an eye", and I think we are going to find out exactly what that meant.
And it could have a lot to do with the main villain, the Skrulls, and trusting who is who. A big part of their shape shifting power is eroding trust, and I'm wondering how wide spread their story gets,
Which brings up a big question. Is the story of Captain Marvel going to be a Kree/Skrull War story? After all, Carol does get her powers from the Kree in the comics, so it would make at least a little bit of sense.
OR, is the story going to be a Secret Invasion tale. OR OR OR ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, even if it's neither of those, could the story end with a cliffhanger, or simply by it's nature, even without a specific cliffhanger, leave us with the implication that a Secret Invasion may have been underway this entire time,
AND THAT is why setting this in the 90's is absolutely brilliant.

I agree, and it would also justify Fury not being surprised at the existence of aliens even by the time of Thor 1.

So MCU's 1st female-led superhero will copy DCEU's 1st female-led superhero movie by taking place in the past.

COME UP WITH YOUR OWN IDEAS MARVEL. I wonder if Captain Marvel will also believe in love because only love will truly save the world...nah, no one would copy that awful line

TL: DR: ArArArArArArArchDickbag literally masturbated so hard at the news of this lame sequel copying the upcoming X-Men that the tweezers he was using to find his dick accidentally cut it off, and he spent the night in the ER having his chode reattached while literally weeping for the lost glory of the MCU.

Norman, I feel like you and I should print out all of these ArArArArch Stimford posts and hang them in a museum like the works of art that they are. We'll offer all of the other board members free admission and serve them wine and cheese.

So do I. I really think he deserves another chance here. His attack on the religious poster seems like it was a one time mistake. I doubt he'd do it again.
