I just watched an interesting documentary on NHK. "7 decades ago, 2 men stood on opposite sides of the front line in World War II. Mitsuo Fuchida was the chief commander of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Jacob DeShazer, a US Army Air Force corporal, dropped incendiary bombs on Nagoya in a revenge raid. After the war, both became devout Christians and embarked on missions in each other's homeland. They met, and forged a firm bond. This story of former soldiers who overcame hatred and embraced peace carries a message that resonates today." DeShazer was part of the Doolittle Raid and was captured. He became a devout Christian when a Japanese guard kindly gave him a bible to help with the funeral of a friend in the POW camp. He returned to America to study theology and became a missionary returning to Japan. He published a pamphlet about how he had gotten past his hatred of the Japanese. Fuchida got this, read it, and it led to his conversion to Christianity. He went to the U.S. as a missionary telling how he got past his hatred of Americans. The show was very moving. They both became committed Christians from reading: Luke 23:24 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. This is Christianity at its best, causing people to get past hatred and preach peace. Road to Redemption
