It might be a bit soon to make the claim but I say Field of Fire is my favorite battle thus far, hands down. The visuals, stunt work, battle formations etc were all a beauty to behold. We've been waiting so long for Dany to take back what is hers by right with fire and blood and we finally got to see it. I love how the battle focused on Bronn for a for a chunk of it and the entire sequence starting from when his horse gets its let's chopped off by the Dothraki to the epic shooting of Dany's dragon was magnificent and nail biting intense. And to end the episode with a bang was that downright awesome scene of Jaime chagrinning through fire. As much as I love the Sapochnik, Shakman's work on this is even better imo. I really hope we get a season 8 with Sapo and Shakmann as the only two directors.
*EDIT* The music was also fantastic. Masterfully constructed from Ramin Djawadi.

Before the series ends, I'd love to see a hour long battle between Dany and Cersei.

[bra] Did you catch when the Dothraki stood up on their horses in unison to shoot? I loved this battle so it's my favorite to date. I just hope that Randall is charcoal.

The Dothraki were so cool. I think it's really the first time we've seen them in action like this? You should vote in the poll

Yup this is the first time we've seen the Dothraki in battle. We know they're fierce and savages but we've never seen it so I thought it was awesome. What struck me the most was the standing on the horses and they fought as a unit, yes savages but not undisciplined in battle. Now if Dany can curb the raping...but for real I think they'd mesh well with the wildlings.

I truly enjoyed WoTW because it was cool to see all the defenses they have at the wall but jeez I hated seeing the giant killed. Plus I just couldn't get behind the reason for the battle, those people needed shelter. I forgot which character said it but it wasn't their fault they got trapped on the other side when the wall was built.

We've been waiting so long for Dany to take back what is hers by right with fire and blood and we finally got to see it. Have "we"? Or does this "we" business refer to the brain dead Daenerys fans who mindlessly cheer for her and name their first born babies "Khaleesi", no matter what evils she inflicts on others, even against the better advice of her advisers? You people are truly special. Indeed. What a moron. Enjoy. She's getting on my nerves but what evil did she inflict that wasn't deserved?

Would you rather have Dany out of Westeros for a whole other season? I doubt it. You don't have to be a Dany fan in order to want her to come to Westeros and cause some damn conflict.

I love all of them for different reasons.
I guess my favorites would be the ones that are most surprising which leaves me with Blackwater (Dat explosion...) & Hardhome.
They're all awesome so this is subject to change.

They're all awesome so this is subject to change. I recently got my dad in Thrones (he's obsessed now) and we just got to Blackwater a couple nights ago. I read all the books before watching the show so it didn't have as big a impact, but my dad lost his shit during that explosion. Sucks to be a Stannis supporter I guess.

Surprised that you didn't mention the war between Greyjoys. Agreed that wasn't a full blown war but it was as long as the dragon war we have seen yesterday.

Definitely the Bastards. What's great is how easy it was to understand the strategies involved - the other battles in the series were more chaotic (though still entertaining).

This is why I think the Bastards battle was the technical top one. It showed the strategy commanders use to win (Including having no issues with killing your own guys) as well as the chaos of actual battle. Of course, the Wall battle had such wonderful choreography including that long tracking shot. Amazing stuff.

I hadn't read the books yet at the time, but I was impressed simply by the scale of it. That was probably the biggest thing I had seen on a TV show, so even if I had read the book, it would have impressed me that they were able to pull it off and on a smaller budget than what they've got now.

All great but I give it to Hardhome. The way that began with the commotion in the distance and slow build up behind the wooden wall, to the final stand off between Jon and the Night King; none of the others had a start or end that matches that. Add to it Wun Wun in the heart of the action, the solo fight between John and one of the White Walkers, and the wights falling off the cliff. The whole thing was perfect.

I chose Field of Fire.
It was visually stunning, though.I LOVED the score. It was like a medley of the Targaryen, dothraki and Lannister theme.
I was especially impressed with the skill level of the dothraki. As far as I knew, they just spent their days knocking over weaker groups. How formidable could they be? Yeah, theyre top of the food chain where they originate but how would they fare against a battlehardened professional army and an untested general(dany)? PLUS, that bloodrider did not perform well against Jorah. His weapon couldn't contend with heavy armor. So, I thought that a dothraki/westerosi battle would resemble something like Boudica v The Roman Army. (And it wouldve without the armor, the size of the dothraki forces and a big ass dragon who blew a hole through their wall and fire to the rear of their formation. Plus the tail of the army was lagging behind. Not saying that the dothraki wouldve lost but that the lannister/tyrell army wouldve better held their ground)
But, yeah, I severely understimated the readiness and ability of the horselords. LOL
Savages but a strong militaristic culture producing a very versatile fighting force. When the dothraki fighter slowed to dismount and kamikazeed behind the line... When the dothraki hit the saddle to loose arrows? Reminded me of this documentary I saw some years back of the mongols and how they fought in horseback. It was very impressive and cool to see such a nod to history.
Kudos to the lannister/tyrell forces. Discipline wins out. Just not this time. Still, they fought valiently and had every reason, too. They dont know Dany or her intentions. They dont know what the rule of Mad Kings daughter will look like. Theyre defending the homeland, in their mind, against a super threat that will rape and enslave their loved ones and children. A threat that would pillage and destroy sbd subdue their continent.
So, yeah, youre damned right the lannister/tyrell soldiers held that formation. Lol Damned right they stood and fought. Fear is natural but you wouldnt have a lot of defectors in such a situation. Morale would be through the roof, actually. As it always is when you fight a cause higher than yourself.
