Agreed. Almost none of the humor landed for me in Ant-Man. It all felt so goddamn forced. It felt like people were laughing because it was "supposed" to be funny rather than it actually being funny. Maybe they should have used a " laugh track"

Maybe they should have used a " laugh track" You guys hit the nail on the head. "Ant-Man" was a perfect example of why I HATE shared universes in Film. I think Marvel and DC should do SHARED universes on Television. Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" would have been great. So unique and genuinely funny. Had it not been for the film needing to share the universe with the Avengers, he could have made his own thing. Thats also why I wish DC had just kept doing the "Trilogy" thing. They nailed "The Dark Knight" trilogy. I think "Man of Steel" was a good foundation for a Superman trilogy. I guarantee if they had made the flashbacks either liner or no flashbacks (just in order) and added Zod to the SMALLVILLE fight (showing Clark that he cannot beat them with his fists) and then Zod gets sucked into the Phantom Zone (ending with him kissing Lois, cut to him talking to Martha about working at the Planet. We are talking about a film making 750M+ and having a 70+ % RT score and a 7.5+ IMDb fan score. It would have went on to make Man of Steel 2 and 3. The second could have made a 2 villain plot like Luthor and Brainiac. I would have had Luthor as a good guy trying to do the right thing (cleaning up Metropolis) but being brainwashed by Brainiac. The third film would have been the "Death of Superman" It would have started with Superman saving the world from a villain in the first act (major battle to begin film) and then the news talking about how the past 8 years he's save the world. Then it would cut to 5 years later. The world is taking Superman for granted. Really make Doomsday a BIG deal. Then we see Superman sacrifice himself over and over until he makes the ultimate sacrifice at the end. Then the world realizes they needed Superman after all. Ends with funeral (like BvS ending) two separate funerals. Dust moves. End Trilogy. And so on and so forth. Green Lantern Trilogy, Wonder Woman Trilogy, Aquaman Trilogy, Flash Trilogy. Then maybe some stand alone films. "Batman: The Long Halloween" or "Batman: HUSH" and so on and so forth. They don't need to connect, or if the story makes sense, they could crossover. It's whatever. If the films suck, oh well, move on to a new director/actor and start fresh, like James Bond.

No, I laughed because I genuinely felt the film was humorous. Also, if you could refrain from saying things like "It felt like people were laughing because it was "supposed" to be funny rather than it actually being funny" like Marvel fans are just trained monkeys, that'd be great.

I'll say what I want and state my opinion plainly. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was bad. I almost walked out of the theater because I was so bored.

Good to know you think so lowly of Marvel fans that you're willing to insult us all and frankly don't care.

Good to know you think so lowly of Marvel fans that you're willing to insult us all and frankly don't care. Dude, we're talking about movies. Don't let this hurt your feelings. Put things into perspective. I'm a fan of MoS, BvS, and SS. I listen to people bash three movies that I really enjoy all the time. How often do you hear people bash Ant-Man? I bet almost never. Be happy about that. And don't let other opinions make you butthurt. Again, we're talking about MOVIES here. I gave my opinion on the movie. You don't have to like it. But it is what it is.

If I were taking offense to you bashing Ant-Man, I'd also be replying to miike and mello's posts. I only replied to you because I did not like the implication behind your words concerning the Marvel fanbase. I am not some easily amused dullard who laughs because it "seems" like the appropriate moment to laugh because I'm some mind-controlled zombie Marvel has control over. I laugh at what I find funny.

I work in law enforcement & there's joking all the time. It comes down to each person. One of the officers I work with is horrible for joking-like saying the chief called, etc. Others are more serious so very much a person by person case.
Guardians played with the humor idea with teammates who didn't get the humor of others.

So far most of the posts here are about the DCEU and frankly I am reluctant to post anything about Marvel to change that. I know any topics I make about MCU films will just be filled with nothing but criticisms for the films without any acknowledgement of their finer points.

Sounds like the standard treatment for the DC movies. Here are some "finer points" for you: Iron Man, The Avengers, The Winter Solider, and Civil War are all great movies. Most of the other movies are at least good as well.

I'm a fan of both Marvel and DC. I don't like to personally get involved in the whole DC vs. Marvel thing, I grew up on both of 'em and still enjoy the comics and, very occasionally, movies and TV shows.
I appreciate that they approach their material differently.

After having countless Nolan obsessees hound us for years, making it their mission to kill any real discussion on Marvel boards and THEN having those people replaced with Snyder obsessees out to do the same thing, well... it does things to a fanbase. So when Man of Steel turned out divisive instead of being "the film that would kill the MCU", certain members from the Marvel side jumped at the chance to exact a little payback. Then BvS was supposed to be the film that "showed us how to make a proper superhero film. No one will watch Marvel anywhere once everyone sees its greatness." Then it was Suicide Squad that'd give us the what-for. Yes, I'm sure there are a lot of people who just don't like the DCEU, but I guarantee the more vocal and aggressive personalities who trolled the DC boards are doing it in reaction to the Nolanites and Snyderites who fired the first shots. People like Joby Dimms fed that kind of behavior.

If we're going to start playing this game, then I can just as easily say that a lot of the MCU fans act holier-than-thou, and that's as obnoxious as it is untrue. So let's not even play the "you started it" game. You wanted this thread to be civil. It can be. As long as we can all respect that certain people have certain preferences, everything will be fine. It's when people get UPSET that other people prefer other things that problems start arising.

I fail to see how Nolanites disliking the DCEU has to do with anything. The point is tensions were already between the Marvel and DC fanbases by the time Man of Steel came into the picture and only worsened with more time. You obviously didn't visit the Marvel boards much, or else you'd have seen how much the DC trolls really have constantly hammered us over the years. They did fire the first shots, though, I'm afraid. I remember most of the fans on the Iron Man board at the time being elated at having two promising superhero films for 2008. Then the "silly kiddie Marvel" topics started even at that early date.

You're taking out your frustrations on a group of fans that had nothing to do with what the Nolanites did to you (because, again, a lot of Nolanites don't even like these new DC movies). But even if we accept your narrative (which I don't), you should be more mature. I find it super ironic that you called for civility in this thread, but you don't seem to want to participate it yourself when challenged. You immediately run to the "WELL THEY SHOT FIRST" excuse. And don't start talking about how some DC fans troll the Marvel boards. You haven't seen trolling until you've seen what the Marvelites did to the BvS board. That's practically what got IMDb shut down. But let's put all the teenage drama behind us, shall we? You wanna start fresh? Then let's start fresh. Both fandoms have stupid people. I'm sure we can agree on that. So let's move past the nonsense.

I'm doing nothing of the sort and you seem to think that I condone what's happened on the BvS board. I don't. What those jerks did is on them. And I have been civil this entire time. I don't care if you believe my narrative or not. I remember what happened, because I was there 8 years ago when it started. Just ask Max Cinefilo89, DesiredFX, or justanicknamed about it while you still have the chance.

It's just your perspective on what happened. We all have our own perspectives on it. The sooner you accept that, the sooner the fighting will stop. You must understand that acting like the DC fans are the bad guys who started some dumb "war" isn't going to make the fighting come to an end. As I said before, both fan bases are loaded with idiots. Surely we can agree on that. And with that said, we can move on and put the nonsense behind us. Right?
