I started one thread about films never released to VHS or DVD, and that got me thinking: what films have been released multiple times to VHS and DVD? Perhaps even a little too many times?
The Universal Monsters would definitely be on that list. How many versions of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, and Phantom of the Opera do we need?
How many issues of Gone with the Wind have there been? How about stuff like Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Lawrence of Arabia, etc.? Do we really need all those versions?

Night of the Living Dead. Since its public domain there are over a hundred different times it was relesed by differnent componies.
But if you are looking for different versions you could go with Star Wars. How many times have those been changed? At least we got a great South Park episode out of i.

Star Wars, the original trilogy, particularly annoying given the changes with each release.
I guess they sell and some fans would want every edition for their collections, something I don't really understand but would be the case. I think Top Gun has been released a few times as well.

Alien and Aliens seem to get a re-release every two or three years where I live. I think they are mostly the same print over and over again, just with new cover art, which makes them especially useless. Second hand stores are already full of different editions of both and no one seems to want them.

Another film commonly released in some new anniversary version: The Wizard of Oz. "Special 76th and a half years edition!'

How many Universal monsters sets do you need? I have one that was released in 2001 or somewhere around there--8 or so discs in a special illustrated box. Then they released the "Legacy" editions, one devoted to each monster. Then they had the 75th anniversary editions. Then they released them all in one huge box (last Halloween, I believe). And we're not even touching the blu-ray releases!
Just WHAT are you looking forward to that hasn't already been printed multiple times?

Disney always digs back into their vaults to make new versions when it would be nice if original versions just never went OOP to inflate the price.

Robocop, Predator and The Terminator have all had a number of Bluray releases in Europe, often with far fewer extras than some of the previous DVD editions.

Yeah, Halloween (1978) has been getting a lot DVD releases, specially by Anchor Bay or is it Starz? They seem to try and milk the fans of their money for what its worth, even including silly stuff like that awful looking and way overpriced plastic Michael Myers mask that got re-released not that long ago. Evil Dead I agree on, I must have found at least 5-6 different DVD versions of the first film, and still not one of them came with subtitles or any solid bonus features.
Disney is a whole other chapter, as they really have become desperate, as their latest "trick" to squeeze out more money from their customers is by fooling them into buying the old "classics" and what is new? Nothing, they have just wrapped some cheap and "updated" paper artwork around the plastic dvd cover. But then again, this is probably nothing new, as I remember several of their DVDs was released in 2005 with the paper artwork included, and those who did not came with it, was often a bit cheaper.

Hell, you can damn near take your pick.
movies should be pretty much released once on each format and that's about it. they should get it right the first time but as usual i suspect it's purely a $$$ thing as they can continue to milk people for as much $$$ as they can with the initial release and then some remastered crap or adding some other minor crap to it.
