I've noticed this as well. Also, why are there no ghosts of cavemen or neanderthals? Is it possible that ghosts have an 'expiration date' which may explain why people only see ghosts from a certain time period? Yes. I believe that ghosts which haunt places are probably souls that are in Purgatory. Purgatory is only a temporal state, & the soul goes to Heaven eventually.

Actually ghost lore has many recent spirits. Amityville is one famous example. Though--if I may speak as someone who grew up not thirty minutes away from Amityville--that has been nigh-completely debunked. I wasn't vouching for the veracity of it. It's just a famous example of recent ghosts (even if the whole story wasn't about recent ghosts). I love the fantasy of ghosts (and lots of other paranormal stuff), and I'd love to believe that stuff, but I don't actually believe any of it. But I read tons of supposedly true ghost stuff, visit sights, etc. and there are supposed to be a lot of recent ghosts.
