Nursery Crime, Foxtrot and of course Selling England by the Pound are some of the best albums of all time, so Gabriel-era Genesis easily.
The first Phil Collins-era Genesis album (A Trick of the Tail) is pretty fucking great though. I quite like Invisible Touch too. Most of the other albums have a few really good songs too. Phil Collins-era Genesis is not bad at all.
Gabriel solo has some great songs, but I need to listen to more of his music. So is the only album I've heard in full.

Gabriel solo is also excellent throughout. Tough to pick, but I went for the Genesis era prog. 4.5/5Nursery Crime Foxtrot Selling England by the Pound So 4/5 Trespass The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Trick of the Tail Us Peter Gabriel (3) Peter Gabriel (4) 3.5/5 Peter Gabriel (1) Passion (Music for The Last Temptation of Christ) Up

I'm just not a big fan of either period of Genesis. Collins by default, but a clear sell-out vs what they were before Gabriel left.
I've listened to Gabriel's solo albums over the past week and absolutely LOVE the first five, culminating with So. Great stuff.

I actually think it's kind of underrated, although it is probably the weakest of the four self-titled albums.

Ah, those last albums were supposed to be 3.5/5, not 3/5 (Which is where I do put PG 2). It just doesn't do anything for me. Looking back at the track listing, I can't even recall how any of them sound - will have to re-listen. Rated it long ago on RYM.

I only really know the 10 main Peter Gabriel songs but they stand above anything Genesis has done. They are better written and ring truer.

Red Rain and Don't Give Up (with Kate Bush) are both on So.

After Wind And Wuthering (not a great album) I found Genesis pretty much unlistenable. Really they should have changed their name as Collins turned them from a wonderfully whimsical English pastoral outfit into a MOR AOR American style pop rock band. Same thing happened to Fleetwood Mac, they both made shedloads of money but sold their musical souls. It's also an age thing as well. Most posters here are probable in their 20's or 30's and so may not even be aware they had a singer before Collins.
