That's exactly what they're after and I saw right through them. Regarding movies, a long time back I learned that the only reliable way to weigh a movie here on the internet was to hit the boards, let INDIVIDUALS tell you exactly what they thought of the movie. No reviews, no "votes".
IMDb and the media are still pissy that WE, the actual viewing audience took down Ghostbusters-In-Name-Only and other SJWs passion projects that they wanted to sell us so badly.
Right on point.
I am PROUD to say that when Josh Trank, director of FANT4STIC bitched and moaned about people being "mean" to him I WAS ONE OF THEM, lambasting the movie left and right for an entire year, Variety even wrote an article about us, mentioning us for being "trolls".
Just like I thought. This is exactly the kind of thing they want to DELETE from existence.
With all of us disbanded, our strength as a vocal unit is reduced drastically. They know quite well that a voiceless crowd is very easy to persuade.
But I feel like an American Hero, sparing my fellow cinema fans from such a monstrosity.
I'm very pleased to learn of your achievement. I think it does make you a hero, one of the 'unsung' heroes they are trying to silence.
Thank you. re:'bold', I wouldn't have it any other way.
re:'people', how they 'feel' about this in a general sense is irrelevant to me and irrelevant for this type of work. I don't need to raise 'public opinion' or 'public awareness'. The facts speak for themselves. All I need is ONE determined individual to help me push this through and make it REAL, a handful at most. I created a simple webpage and one simple post here, that's it. I won't put much effort on trying to spread around this idea. If nobody listens, then I'm off to other/better things and I'll let it all sort itself out.
But as far as I'm concerned, the days of growing a database for other people, so they can get rich off it and then stab me in the back by deleting EVERYTHING, those days are over.

IMDB is one of the few places where everyone from all over the world can post and get media information on the dime. I mean, they have to know how much actual bank in people revenue they are losing. The reason why their site stands period above Mojo, Rotten Tomatoes is their traffic. How do they make money if they don't get the hits? It's a joke for them to think this a good idea. People will always wise up and create something better. They should have thought of that before they closed the best feature on their site.
No one is that dumb. There has to be a crooked agenda behind this move.
They are kind of taking away all the user-to-user interaction so there has to be more to the move than is being let on. What's a website without some sort of user-to-user interaction?
God is an astronaut, Oz is over the rainbow, and Midian is where the monsters live.

"What's a website without some sort of user-to-user interaction? " A one-sided website under absolute expressive control by the owners. In other words, they can say anything they want and there's no way for people to say what they THINK about it, or to exchange opinions and information.

I wouldnt be amazed if producers who are pissed their movies bombed so badly because of us are behind this.

I think IMDB believes we are sheep and we will just accept anything that they create for us. They think that IMDB is so ingrained in our lives that we will flock to the website no matter what. There is more to a movie then just watching it. What is the first thing we do after we watch a movie? we discuss it with our friends and our coworkers, the great part about it is that everyone has a different take on the movie and that is what makes it fun and engaging, it is apart of the experience. The IMDB boards allow us to do this on an even greater scale and I think it is a really valuable resource. For me personally, the closing of the boards has just created apathy, it has sadly caused me to lose a little interest in movies and shows because of my passion for discussing film and learning other's opinions on things. It is that shared passion for something that creates a community that can strengthen our love for movies.

They have forgotten bad movie crashed way long before IMDb...
Cleopatra? Waterworld?
They think they can steer the conversation... right...
We still publish in Social Media and we still uplift or lambast a movie, all they have done is shoot themselves on the ass.

Yeah that wouldn't surprise me, but on the flip side isn't places like IMDB where they can become popular because of people's opinions and thought. I think it can work both ways.
Give it a couple of months and IMDB will have turned into something unrecognisable. It wouldn't be a shock into something like ancestry.com, you can see a snippet but if you want the full movie info you have to pay for it.
God is an astronaut, Oz is over the rainbow, and Midian is where the monsters live.
Will People still be able to write reviews and create lists?
Yes but other users will have a hard time to find your lists because IMDb kills any communication devices.
Yeah, I don't really get their angle. I don't see how they are enhancing the user experience. If anything, it seems pretty clear that they're going to lose users.
