Except apparently Empire, because the examples you cited were neither cute nor funny. Regarding cute/funny, one or two movies being excepted does not change the validity of the statement "....those elements have always been part of the franchise." That' still an accurate statement. They were there in the first movie, thus proving the point "always," and they have been prevalent throughout, thus validating the phrase "been part of the franchise." They can't have "always" been part of the franchise if they took a 6 year vacation between Hope and Jedi. That's putting aside the fact that Empire is generally regarded as the best in the franchise, so they might want to consider using that one as an influence - and not just sticking in AT-ATs and calling it a day. "Tauntauns were meant to be cute." - the snow camel that gets eviscerated in the first 20 minutes and has it's still-warm intestines used to keep Luke alive? I don't know about your definition of cute, but if TLJ opened with some grizzly porg mayhem, I'd change my tune. "Ugnaughts were meant to provide comic relief." - I don't remember anything that funny about them, but comic relief alone is not the issue. Han Solo was largely comic relief. You and the other guy are driving the discussion in circles, but you know exactly the type of characters we're talking about: ewoks, gungans, porgs. Stuff that should be on Teletubbies, not a franchise where a guy gets burned alive in a lava incident.

You and the other guy are driving the discussion in circles, but you know exactly the type of characters we're talking about: ewoks, gungans, porgs. Stuff that should be on Teletubbies, not a franchise where a guy gets burned alive in a lava incident. Yes, tauntauns were cute. Go back and listen to the sound they make. That's not a menacing sound. It's not an intelligent sound. It's cute. One might even call it "funny-sounding." So what if one was sliced and diced? Did you not see Ewoks getting smoked by blasters in ROTJ? Did you not see a heap of Jawa carcasses being incinerated in ANH? Hell yes you did. Did Gungans get killed in several scenes of TPM? Cute and funny creatures getting eviscerated has also always been part of the franchise. You didn't think the scene of the Ugnaughts tossing around C3POs head was meant to be funny? I would also like to point out to you that in your response, you list cute/funny creatures that have appeared/will appear in all three trilogies, thus, helping prove the statement "have always been part of the franchise." Then I'd like to point out that neither me nor "the other guy" are saying they should be part of the franchise. We are only saying that they have been, which is just a fact. And the point in saying that is this: it's complete bullshit to criticize Disney for an idea like Porgs as though adding the element of cute/funny to SW is a Disney change to the franchise. It is not a change that Disney has introduced. It has always been part of the franchise.

They may not matter, but apparently not food according to RJ YODA: Eat or eat not. Don't just dangle that roasted porg in my face.
