It was immediate, but I was less conscious of all the problems until I mulled it over. Initially there were just glaring issues that I involuntary laughed at while watching...Afterwards there were large plot points I took issue with all the while I was having a sense that the entire thing just felt 'off'.

I was initially pleased to have a new Star Wars film with a new director and the original cast. I'm still of the opinion that visually this was quite good but the more I think about the plot and story the angier I get. I really wanted to like this movie. I find it hard to believe Disney and JJ got it so wrong and even harder to believe the excellent reviews it received. It's like the fanbase has gone insane. TFA really is the polished turd of the Star Wars films.

TFA really is the polished turd of the Star Wars films. Yep! The zealous, hipster obsession with insisting it "saved" the saga from the prequels when, in reality, it just kicked off the series' truly shameless, cynical, sausage-making days made how awful the movie was that much more maddening and mind-numbing. I can't wait until they're cranking out Episode XXIV and the sixth in a slew of BB8 solo movies and wondering when Star Wars stopped being the slam-dunk box office draw it used to be.

It was like digesting a spoiled bantha steak and knowing halfway through dat yousa were gonna get a killer case of food poisoning! But yousen be right! Meesa looked around at some other audience members, and they were gleefully lapping it up like Pavlovian dogs who lied to themselves about any pain just so they could continue to have'n da taste on their tongues!

It was pretty much a rehash of A New Hope. That said, I didn't hate it, except when Han died (atrb_partsz)

Yeah, they're really milking it with all these side bar movies. I am curious for the Han Solo origin story, however.

On delay. And I say that without shame. Who didn't want to see the original cast again? Who didn't want to feel those good feelings again? But as the days and weeks went on, it became clearer and clearer to me. It's one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever seen. I hate it and I judge the fuck out of people who like it. I was like "Yeah, Star Wars!"...Then after I processed it, I was like yeah, there's nothing new here. This was just A New Hope again, except they killed Han Freaking Solo. Then instead of comforting Chewie, Han's partner in crime a confidante from the beginning, Leia runs to comfort Rey about it. WTF.

I will also add that I'm irritated they seem to be setting Rey up to be a Jedi. Modern feminists will pull my woman card for this, but I think it's bullshit. The Jedi Order is for men, and there is nothing wrong with that. Leia had the force, kicked ass, and did not need to be a Jedi to do it. Introducing female Jedis is just some kind of bullshit feminist statement, and messes with the mythology, IMO.

Well, technically, the EU had female jedi, and there were a few female(albeit non-human female) Jedi in the PT... So......

I'm not arguing that there isn't an agenda with how Rey is written, but it's not specifically her being a Jedi that pushes the character into agenda territory, it's her entire character. As she's depicted in the movie, she can do no harm, is never injured, and always succeeds when she attempts anything. That speaks more to agenda than having a female jedi.

I think that most people convinced themselves to love it because it's not like the prequels. They were right, it's not like the prequels, it's way worse

Rey is just another Disney warrior princess! Except she is dropped into SW. Into a retelling of ANH to be exact. And rather than have Rey bend to SW, thems made SW bend to her. Dats da tragedy of it. No SW character has ever been bigger than da saga or da mythos, until Rey.

Rey is a Mary Sue. Rey turned da Force into Disney magic! And her is da only SW character dat has been loved, admired, and/or respected by everyone she crossed paths with. In da first movie already! It doesn't get anymore MarySue than dat in SW.

Just didn't feel like a Star Wars movie. Can't really explain it, just felt like I was watching another summer blockbuster movie (high on instant entertainment, little else besides that). (And yes, I know this movie did not come out over the summer)
