After the glorious decade of 80s horror, came the 90s, which were considered pretty weak horror-wise until Scream revived the genre. That's how the story goes, anyway, but I have a bunch of favorite 90s horror flicks, both pre and post-Scream.
. The People Under the Stairs (1991) - My very favorite, I even started a thread about it . Dr. Giggles (1992) - A demented doctor killing people AND using cheesy medical puns while doing it . Wishmaster (1997) and Wishmaster II (1999) - Really cool practical effects and inventive kills, and Andrew Divoff as the title character is such an underrated horror villain that should be talked about more often . Child's Play 2 (1990) - Almost as good as the first one. The final act in the toy factory is better than the first movie's climax imo . Demon Knight (1995) - All-around fun horror comedy with Billy Zane being Billy Zane, which is always great . Frankenhooker (1990) - Another excellent weirdo horror comedy . Dead Alive (1992) - Peter Jackson's super gory zombie gorefest . The Craft (1996) - Witches, man . Cemetery Man (1994) - Seriously, this is a gem. One of the best zombie movies ever made. It's trippy and evocative and even artsy, which is rare for a zombie movie . Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990) - A really enjoyable horror anthology with stories about a mummy, a cat from hell, and a murderous gargoyle

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) Interesting. I'd imagine most people would put New Nightmare instead of Freddy's Dead. I consider Freddy's Dead to be the weakest of the series, though I do remember some fun kills like the video-game one. It's been a few years since I've seen any of the sequels, so maybe I'm mixing them up.

Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990) - A really enjoyable horror anthology with stories about a mummy, a cat from hell, and a murderous gargoyle That is a real solid list of horror gold, and nice to see some love for Dr. Giggles (1992) as that one is one fun ride, I love seeing Larry Drake in the leading role, hilarious quotes all the way. Does not deserve its bad reputation at all. Dead Alive is hilarious, that baby sequence in the park with the drunken guy watching, probably the funniest scene Peter Jackson ever did. Frankenhooker I guess we can both agree on, is one hell of a horror comedy and the same goes for The People Under the Stairs. I miss the kind of anthology films like Cat's Eye ((1985), Creepshow 1 (1982) and 2 (1987), Nightmares (1983) and Tales from the Darkside, these movies were always lots of fun. Demons Knight and Bordello of Blood (1996) were both good Tales From The Crypt films, even though the first one was a far better made film, I do however have weak spot for Bordello of Blood because of Erika Eleniak.

Yeah the 1990s was a rather crappy decade for horror movies. Nevertheless, here are some ones I liked.
Silence Of The Lambs Wes Craven's New Nightmare Candyman The Relic Scream The Blair Witch Project Dead Alive Demon Knight

The Good Son (1993) Tesis (1996) Funny Games (1997)yearspew For some reason I still haven't seen Frankenhooker or Cemetery Man, I guess I have to watch them ASAP. Yeah, Frankenhooker is a must-watch, it's just so much crazy fun. Cemetery Man I guess is less accessible, kind of like a weird art film but with zombies and gore and it's actually thought-provoking. I'm glad to see The Good Son on your list. That movie always creeped me out as a kid, and I still think it's Macaulay Culkin's best performance. Tesis and Funny Games are really good. Funny Games is one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen, and I don't really think of it as a horror movie, but I probably should because it's terrifying to think about.

I totally forgot to put this on my list. This one, like Cemetery Man, is one of the most underrated horror gems of the 90s or any other decade. A terrific screenplay with great entertaining characters and overall just a lot of fun to watch. Kudos for including it!

A terrific screenplay with great entertaining characters and overall just a lot of fun to watch. Kudos for including it! I would call it the perfect horror-comedy. Very refreshing in its jolts and laughs. I did make the mistake of sitting on it for too long though, before I watched the decade old copy I had. Likewise. Going through other lists i noticed I forgot some myself. I don't know how I forgot about Ravenous & Tremors.

Dennis Miller has one of the all-time great one liners in Bordello of Blood. That movie is so much better than Demon Knight.
And shame on you all for not including Anaconda. King Kong got nothing on it.

The problem was most weren't horror. It was psychological. I enjoy many of these films, but they didn't scare me.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned The Resurrected (1991), one of the more successful H.P. Lovecraft adaptations.
