Friday 25 August 1939 television schedule for England. Note: the times provided are probably incorrect by a few minutes (for example, the cartoon short runs longer than 5 minutes). 11:00AM - Come and Be Televised3:00PM - Kuda Bux 3:10PM - Cartoon Film: Pied Piper (possibly the 1933 Walt Disney short, as other Disney shorts are known to be shown on 1930s BBC TV) 3:15PM - Gaumont British Newsreel 3:25PM - A Bedfast Prophet4:00PM - The Zoo 8:00PM - National Programme (sound only) 9:00PM - The Kentucky Minstrels (bizarrely, this minstrel show also features the genuinely Black singer Adelaide Hall) 9:30PM - Albert Sandler (violin) 9:40PM - British Movietone Newsreel 9:50PM - TV Play: Ending It (later remade in 1957 for Australian TV) genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/bbctv/1939-08-25

New York City television schedule for Friday 21 August 1931. Nothing remains of any of these programs. However, there is a silent experimental recording of a early 1930s BBC broadcast which shows that mechanical television could be entertaining and not as "static" as one might assume. Earlier today I posted a U.S. schedule, now I will post a UK one.... Sunday 7 August 1938 television schedule for England. Apart from the Walt Disney film, everything on this schedule is lost. The shows aired live, and the ability to record live television was not developed until 1947, and was used very rarely by the BBC prior to 1953. Note: "Spelling Bee" is possibly television's very first recurring game show! 8:50PM - News Bulletin 9:05PM - Speaking Personally 9:10PM - Ballet: Les Sylphides9:35PM - Cartoon Film: The Ugly Duckling (1931) 9:45PM - Spelling Bee10:15PM - sign off Source: genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/bbctv/1938-08-07

I didn't realize tv stations were around in the 1930s. I figured they didnt appear until the 1950s.
I wonder what the cartoons would have been?

I didn't realize tv stations were around in the 1930s. I figured they didnt appear until the 1950s. I wonder what the cartoons would have been? In terms of the early 1930s US schedules, the cartoons would have probably been silent ones originally shown in cinemas (you can find some 1910s/1920s cartoons on YouTube). In terms of the late-1930s UK schedules, I believe they were typically Walt Disney cartoons. The posts for the U.S. TV schedules include links to vintage newspapers used as the source, some also featuring radio schedules or interesting vintage articles.
