Saw it last night. Decent action flick. Villain and plot was kinda predictable. They should have stuck a little bit more closer to the source material for a good story. But the build up with the first act where we're introduced to Mitch Rapp and his quest for revenge was really good. The opening scene with the terrorist attack was definitely one of the most intense scene. Good soundtrack too. O'Brien and Keaton gave great performances too! Solid 6 out of 10 for me

It's one of a fairly small amount of movies being released this year that ill probably see eventually when out on video.
based on commercials... i figure it will be at least decent enough not to waste my time and i may mildly like it but i am not expecting it to be anything special.

No, it's a waste of time. I'm not entirely certain what the message of the film is supposed to be but the flick is garbage, I'll tell you that. It could have been enjoyable in an 80s (brainless) actioner kind of way if the lead had any charisma whatsoever. Honestly Keaton's presence raised my expectations for this flick. I thought this was going to be more of a cautionary tale than a faux tough guy jerkoff piece. Again, mindless actioners are fine but you need the right actor to sell that kind of thing. There was just nothing to this movie; and when you can't at least have fun watching an action movie, something went seriously wrong.

I thought this was a really good action film. Keaton was perfect for his role. Granted, Dylan O'Brien was a little inexpressive at times, but I thought his single-minded focused determination was more effective than histrionics.

The character constantly went off script, disobeyed orders and made things personal. He was terrible at his job. He wandered into peril and would've died ten times over if it weren't for the military/government involvement he was trying so hard to avoid the entire time. The story glorifies and rewards out of control behavior by US-backed operatives. You can enjoy it for what it is, I can't tell you what not to like. But the protagonist displayed anything but 'focused determination' in this flick.

Rey KahukaThanks for the info and all but it's probably at least watchable as waste of time for me pretty much means 4/10 (below average) or less and most movies i see score a 5/10 with a 6/10 being the next most common (between both of those rating that makes up about 7 out of ever 10 movies i see land on one of those two scores with most(as in majority) scoring a 5/10). but to get into a little more detail on my scoring when it comes to that 'wasting my time' aspect... with 5/10's, while they are generally decent enough for a viewing (but don't have any re-watch appeal for me), there are some cases that kinda border on wasting my time like a 'weak 5/10' (i.e. 4.5-5/10) or something close enough to that score. but my "flat 5/10's" (i.e. 5/10) or "strong 5's" (i.e. 5-5.5/10) tend to fall into that decent enough for a viewing category but i would not re-watch em again which ultimately makes em a Thumbs Down from me. but given what i could make out from the commercials... the lead did not look like anything special but i figure should not be too bad as Keaton might elevate the movie a little bit. in the end... maybe it will be just another generic action movie variation, which i won't be surprised if it is, but ill roll-the-dice on it.

I expected it to be more of the latter category when I learned the book series is really a poor man's Jason Bourne. Yeah it would be an upgrade if the books are a poor man's Bourne, because the story as presented here is anti-Bourne. Bourne was a former assassin reborn as an operative with a conscience. This guy is a mindless killing machine who believes in nothing but vengeance. I mean hey, I love the Punisher but he's as far away from Jason Bourne as it gets. And even the Punisher has charisma. Bottom line this role was miscast, and ultimately the story doesn't decide on a message. It tries to float commentary about black ops (I guess?) with Kitsch's character but the protagonist is rewarded for off the grid lunacy so what did we learn here? The lead never learns from his mistakes or pays for them. He's unsympathetic to the audience and worse, he's just plain boring.

I don't understand why Keaton was in this flick. He's not terrible but anyone could've played his role here. I've really enjoyed the Keatonssance (just made that term up) of late and I though his presence alone made this a film worth checking out. Turns out it's a paycheck performance for a paycheck film.

This was my initial quote (bold added): "Granted, Dylan O'Brien was a little inexpressive at times, but I thought his single-minded focused determination was more effective than histrionics."
But that's what I mean by his "single-minded focused determination" -- he was like a bulldog in his intent and was NOT going to be called off by his superiors. I did not mean that his determination was necessarily effective in the mission, but was effective in displaying his character, rather than histrionics would have.
