New Zealand win with a last ball bye scamper by about 10cm !
King Kane wins it for the Black Caps with 121*
Fair play to both sides, fantastic test match watched from afar…

Wow, was able to catch last 20 mins of NZ-Sri test and it was pretty dramatic. Well done SL for being in the competition when it was thought they will not be able to compete. Well done NZ and Kane.

Meanwhile in India the deadest of pitches looks like producing a Spectacular draw for the ages.
The only time the bowling side has looked like taking a wicket is if the batsmen overextend or get tired.

Smudge lost his mind! Fancy declaring only 84 ahead on a flat road! India would have won for sure! Or so may some idiot on the SMH sports page be commenting right now...

Smudge lost his mind! Fancy declaring only 84 ahead on a flat road! India would have won for sure! Or so may some idiot on the SMH sports page be commenting right now... Read it already on both ESNCricinfo and Reddit. ”Why aren’t India batting ?” ”Rohit should punish arrogant Aussies for declaring early” Some people are either geniuses or have never seen Test cricket before….

Australia rolled for 188 in the first ODI. M.Marsh excellent for 81. Inglis (26) and Smudge (22) tbe only other bars to clear 20. Shami and Siraj took 3 each for India.

Australia has started very well band are looking favourites to win here. This is a very good wicket that is helping bowlers a lot. Shami was getting movement all through the day.

AJ - you love declaring any one favourites over India, despite what the score line says ! At 83/5, needing needing 106 off more than 30 overs - it’s 50/50. Especially given India still had 2 world class players batting and Thakur next in. At 133/5 and needing 56 off 108 balls - India is in the driving seat. Australia needs to get both Jadeja and Rahul out before they need less than 30 to have a chance.

Actually, Indian batsmen were not even able to connect to ball and wicket was looking ominous when I wrote it (there was a review for 4th wicket then). It seems Pandya-Rahul partnership eased them so now they seem to be going well.

India win in a canter by 5 wickets. Jadeja MOTM but Rahul was a very close second with 80 odd not out and a 100 run partnership with Jaddu….
Meanwhile in Wellington, NZ are giving the Sri Lankans a bit of a touch up.
461/2. Williamson 201*, Nicholls 136* and a 344 run partnership.

I thought I’d double check, and I was right.
They are still 100 runs shy of the best 3rd wicket partnership by NZ against SL at Wellington, even though this is NZ’s 6th best partnership of all time !
Jones and Crowe 467 (Martin Crowe got 299)

Kiwis declare at 580. They got a lot of runs in the day and ended with 2 double centuries. Still a plenty of overs to go so they do be eying wickets. Williamson regaining his form in the last game and now building on it.

Temba just whacked 144 off 118 but ut wasn't enough to inspire his team to a win. Temba was 9th out as Saffers were bowled out for 287 chasing the Windies 8-335. Saffers were looking good at 2-184 in the 25th over before losing 6-54 in 56 balls.

Pakistan though needs to do something about those pitches. The grounds are too high scoring. 200 seems par score. That said I did enjoy watching PSL.

Whoa! Huge win to Australia!
It would be nice if they performed this well at the World Cup later this year but India are still my prediction to win.

Whoa! Huge win to Australia! It would be nice if they performed this well at the World Cup later this year but India are still my prediction to win. I think England are specials. In subcontinental conditions, they have nearly the perfect team - balanced by Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes. YBJ and Buttler are proven commodities in India, Root and Brook are class, and they have a variety of fast bowlers to pick from - genuine quicks in Archer and Wood, slippery customers like Sam Curran and David Willey, and out and out swingers like Woakes. They also have arguably the best ODI spinner in the world in Adil Rashid. Guys like Jason Roy and Reece Topley would be walk up starts for most teams, might not even make the squad, let alone the starting XI. A side like Bairstow, Root, Brook, Livingstone, Stokes, Buttler, Ali, S.Curran, Woakes, Wood, Rashid - bats to 9 and has 7 bowling options. India just have that propensity to have a really off day - and in a tournament as cut throat as a WC can be, they will run into a buzzsaw eventually. Like the last WC - I reckon their selectors might lose them games by picking on reputation rather than form or team balance. I’m not sold on Pandya as a captain either. I think the key 3 players for India are Jadeja, Axar and Washington Sundar. Somehow, India just has to find a spot for all 3 - because of all 3 and all 3 facets. Pandya has to concentrate solely on batting and batting at 4. Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Pandya, Iyer, Kishan, Sundar, Jadeja, Axar, Siraj, Shami/Bumrah. Pakistan are the dark horses, especially if the pitches have some life in them. Solid top order, and a varied attack with some genuine strike power. Australia will be thereabouts as always, but are definite 4th favourites. South Africa have a decent chance, even if their batting is a touch thin. NZ might not have the bowling anymore to trouble the big guns in Indian conditions. SL are just a bit short of firepower, as are Bangladesh. West Indies are far too hot and cold and most of their “stars” are vastly overrated and better suited to T20. The rest are there to make up the numbers. Afghanistan should go well, but they just have no batting. Interesting to see how Zimbabwe go - some really talented youngsters there, and who else qualifies…..
