"What are you afraid of? It's only rock and roll..."Eddie Weinbauer (Marc Price) are the high schools outsider. A reputation which makes him a rather easy target among the fellow students, who seem to loves playing mean jokes on him. And as a way of dealing with the situation, Weinbauer seeks comfort within his favorite past time hobby, heavy metal music and his ultimate rock idol, Sammi Curr. But when the news that his beloved hero, Sammi Curr has become the victim of a fatal hotel fire, it leaves a broken down and furious Eddie being all on his own, in the fight against the "Airheads and braindeads". As a bit of a comfort gift, his friend Nuke (Gene Simmons) a local DJ, decides to give Eddie the one and only copy of Curr's latest unreleased album. A gift which comes with some powerful responsibility, as it turns out that the LP contains hidden messages when played backwards, the kind that will help Weinbauer into getting revenge on his bullies.Mix Carrie (1976) along with John Hughes teenage films of the 80s and you'll have Trick or Treat. A fun and very entertaining (specially if you're a metal head or just enjoy cheesy 80s Halloween films) as it comes along with a solid and rockin' soundtrack done by Fastway and you also get a couple of decent cameos by rock legends such as Ozzy Osbourne (here seen as a priest who really hates metal music) and of course Gene Simmons as the local rock DJ Nuke. A role I kind of hoped would be a bit longer as it feels like he had a bit of plans for poor Eddie by delivering him the Sammi Curr LP, but I guess Simmons only came in for some few minutes, and this was all the time he had to offer, still better than nothing though. Funny how when I bought it back on a scandinavian DVD in 2005, the artwork portrays it like the film is gonna be dominated by Ozzy and Gene, by having their enormous faces plastred all over, and on the backside it says: "With the music of Whitesnake, Anthrax, Twisted Sister, W.A.S.P. and Warrant", but they do however provide some rather cool looking posters on Ragman's bedroom wall. All in all, a cheesy but fun horror-comedy or adventure if you will, absolute not scary for even one seconds, and the special effects might seem not that impressive but I have always liked it for what it is a fine little b-movie horror film that never becomes boring or dull.

Great movie. Very underrated. It combines horror, heavy metal, and Halloween, three of my favorite things. Sammi Curr (played by the late Tony Fields) was an awesome villain. God bless the 80's!

I loved this film back in the day. I rewatched it recently but didn't like it as much. 6/10 for the film 10/10 for the soundtrack though

A very fun movie for fans of both horror and metal. It's WAY overdue for special edition DVD and Blu-ray releases in Region 1.

A very fun movie for fans of both horror and metal. It's WAY overdue for special edition DVD and Blu-ray releases in Region 1. I remember there were some heavy rumours that Trick or Treat were to be given a 20th Anniversary Double Disc DVD edition back in 2006, and that Anchor Bay was on the job. But of course, that is years ago, but there is a German Blu-ray/special edition, that has been out for some time, but it is rather high priced, and from what I remember, there was several angry buyers who later on complained about the english original version, and that the sound was very poor, compared to the dubbed German version. Ill think I stick with my good sounded, but not all fantastic looking region 2 Scandinavian DVD version for now, but hopefully someone will give this little gem a worthy release, sooner or later.

It is a fun, cool 80's horror\comedy; but if anything lets it down, it is the lack of blood\gore. Charles Martin Smith the director, didn't want to go that route, as Sammy Cain was pure electricity, but it would have given his film a little more edge and even boost. Nice though that someone has brought up this film, because it tends to get forgotten and it certainly isn't boring. I agree on the lack of gore/blood, but on the other hand the film starts very early on in a more "light hearted" tone, and by dropping on buckets of blood/gore, it might have not worked that well, in the end. Still an entertaining little horror/adventure film, that comes with a very solid soundtrack, and I was surprised that Fastway did not seem to make it bigger back then, as they handed out some real great tunes.

Would have been neat if there really were a director's cut of the film lying somewhere, but I guess that is not very likely.
I do remember the scene with the blonde bimbo girlfriend of the lead bully, getting her head, more or less "soften" up by a black tape Weinbauer gave away as an "peace" offering, and that scene could have easily been improved upon with a bit more nastiness included.

I'd buy it on blu-ray just for the sound quality of the soundtrack. I too was surprised Fastway didn't achieve more however none of the other albums of theirs sound anything like it.

I have the movie soundtrack along with their first two albums, that are combined on one CD, and I think they have two/three cuts from those releases that made it onto the soundtrack, but their studio records sounded rather poor, or just not that good compared to Trick or Treat. My favorite song of Fastway, are the awesome If You Could See.

Watching this now on YouTube. Haven't seen it since the 80's. Gene Simmons and Ozzy were so young!

I think I saw it just last year, and somehow I tend to end up watching it far more often during the winter time (january, february and march) but I will most likely try to give it watch on the big night, as it is surely one of the most enjoyable and fun metal/horror films to come out of the 80s, and has also that solid feel-good/Halloween party vibe going very strong.
Beside having to do the tough task of deciding which movies to see during the upcoming weekend, I will also have to plan out on what kind of food, snacks, drinks and so on I must buy, as well as trying to decorate my apartment a bit more horror-Halloweenish, which is really no big problem, as I take one fast look outside my windows, and all these beautiful colors from the forest are doing their very best in helping to create that awesome autumn feel.
Still, I have som work cut out, but I am far more motivated about looking forward to Halloween night, rather than the whole craze of Christmas and I am almost fed up of it, several months before it actually starts.

I watched about a year ago and have fond feelings for it even though the plot is silly and everything over the top. I legit love the soundtrack and have owned it on cassette, CD, and digital.

I remember the very first time that I saw it on cable tv, and I thought it had early on a potential for going a bit further on with a more darker or serious approach, but I guess that did not last for much long. Still, I think it has hold up very well, and surely stands as one of the most enjoyable horror metal releases of the 80s and early 90s. Of course, the soundtrack also have a very important part in that, as I also have the CD version and it is a really great horror soundtrack by a band who should have been much more popular back in the days.
