......for the MCU? It will be difficult for them to maintain general audience interest once they have peaked and a number of the big names leave.

It might not its peak, after all it is the conclusion of like a 20 movie story arc and possibly some of the main ones like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor could go out of it.
Depends on where they go with the story next maybe Galactus or Kang. Spider-man, Black Panther and Captain Marvel are starting off so who knows if they could prove to be as popular.

They've been systematically introducing the new guard to replace the old one, and audience response to the new guys is very promising. The MCU isn't going to leave us anytime soon.

Audiences are bound to dwindle if people like RDJ, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth leave. Now DC are on the verge of all butt eradicating Zack the Hack's stink (1 more movie to go!!), it could be their chance to rise and take advantage of waning MCU interest.

Yeah, it goes without saying that the MCU might not be making quite the money it used to during that transitional stage. However, I have every confidence they'll be alright in the long run.

It could as Iron Man and Captain America in particular are the two main characters. Thor...I don't think losing him would have such a significant impact on the whole series.
Spider-man is just as popular so he'd offset their loss to some extent. Depends if Marvel ever get the rights back to Fantastic Four or not if they could make something of that.

Will you be pleased for the DCU should they become the number 1 CBM franchise?

Will you be pleased for the DCU should they become the number 1 CBM franchise? I lived with it before during Phase 1. Phase 4 will probably be a lot like Phase 1 where they experiment around and perhaps aren't the top dogs for a while, but they'll gain audience trust in that period and come out on top by Phase 5 if they play it smart like they did during Phase 1. I don't care which is on top as long as their films are good.

Justice League 2 might $1.6 billion if everything between JL1 and then goes well and the DCEU builts up a reputation. Right now, no.

The only way Justice League could make that kind of money is if all the women Weinstein and Buttfleck sexually harassed bought tickets.

I think so. I love the MCU, but eventually it will have to reboot. Iron Man and Captain America are the main attractions and I can see both leaving after IW. If so, Spiderman would still ring in the crowds, but can Ant Man, Black Panther, etc. do the same? I am not really sure. I LOVE these movies and even I am getting fatigued.

It will decline for sure once Thanos is defeated and the original Avengers recast. They will desperately need rights to the X-men and F4 so they can do fresh Apocalypse/Galactus/Silver-Surfer/Dr Doom type stuff.

I do think it's inevitable that Marvel will hit a rough patch. It happens to everyone. They are already beating the odds with 16 (going on 17) movies in a row that the majority like. That's unheard of in Hollywood. It does sound logical that they will be in a state of flux after IW2. Where do you go after that? My first thought is maybe they try to get FF back and maybe even the X-men. Galactus and Silver Surfer would give them something new right away and I doubt they would screw it up like Fox did. The thought of Marvel doing Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse properly is an attractive idea too. Boy...Fox has wasted a ton of great stories and characters.... They could also go "small" with the stories and change the vibe of everything. I don't see how they get "bigger" after Thanos. I don't agree with the idea that Marvel taking a step back would help DC though. The genre is made stronger by good movies and weaker by bad movies. It doesn't help Marvel when WB, Fox, and Sony make bad SH movies. All the public knows is that they spent money on a SH movie and didn't get good entertainment in return. That makes them LESS likely to spend that money on the genre again. I know the fanboy war won't allow them to think logically about that. They harbor this fantasy that one studio "wins" and that means the other studio "loses". The SH genre exists because all the studios made good movies during the 2000s. Not sure how everyone missed that. BvS burning the public did not help Civil War...it hurt Civil War. CW came out just a few weeks later. That's why WB is secretly happy that it looks like Thor 3 is going to be a good movie. That means the public will be more willing to spend money on JL. When you like something, you want to do it again.

Eh, they can build up lesser known villains into big-timers easily IMO. The Supreme Intelligence, Nightmare, the Skrulls are back. In fact, since they got the Skrulls back it's possible they also have other FF villains like Kang or Annihilus.
