... has a very high bar to hurdle.
Thor Ragnarok is currently at 98% with 41 critics weighing in. Holy Cow!
If a Marvel movie from its third tier superhero series manages to beat out DC's historic team-up of A-listers, by gum, it may usher in the Apocalypse! Rivers will flood (with tears) and the heavens will be filled with the wailing of countless despondent souls.
... or it's going to get vewy vewy quiet around here.

The trailers make it seem Avengers-lite which again, I think will be the biggest complaint. Best case scenario, and realistically given the production shakeup, I think critics will say "it's fine". Like a lower ranking MCU installment. Worst case, well at least we'll probably get a cool Wonder Woman trilogy and probably that one Aqua-Man movie.

No, I think its going to be quite the reverse! If that happens the Marveltards will not shut up about it! Do you know how much doo doo they were talking about how Civil War beat BvS "even though BvS had the more well known super heroes!"? and how Deadpool made more money than Batman and Superman combined!? The poo pooing just went on and on. If Thor makes more money or, as it seems will be the case, is better received critically, we'll never hear the end of it! And they'll come here to the DC threads to do it too!
Even YOU are already starting with it: Calling Thor "third tier" and Justice League "DC's historic team-up of A-listers". That's the rhetoric right there! Its already started!
I can just see/hear/read it now...

Rivers will flood (with tears) and the heavens will be filled with the wailing of countless despondent souls. ... or it's going to get vewy vewy quiet around here. And just to give you a little perspective on those reviews, here are some excerpts from within those reviews...
From Entertainment Weekly: What neither Hemsworth nor his director can overcome, though, is Ragnarok’s meandering and narcoleptic story. It’s the sort of rote, paint-by-numbers slog (occasionally broken up by numbing, pro forma smashy-smashy smackdowns) that makes so many Marvel movies feel like Xeroxes of other Marvel movies. I get the why-mess-with-success impulse. Especially when there’s so much money to be made in movies like this. But even the most diehard comic-book fan has to be getting a bit exhausted by a narrative formula that’s become as thin and watered down as skim milk.
There’s a lot more to the bloated story, but honestly, none of it is very interesting. In fact, it’s endless. You don’t care what’s happening or what’s going to happen next. We’re just led from place to place for a hash of foggy reasons that no one will ever remember 10 minutes after leaving the theater.
Doesn't actually sound that glowing as a review. Here's another...
From USAToday: The adventure leans hard into the campy Flash Gordon vibe and slapstick humor, so much so that when the third act save-the-world stuff comes, it doesn’t feel completely earned. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming and even Ant-Man struck an enjoyable balance between the absurd and the serious that Ragnarok just doesn’t quite nail.
And another...
From Associated Press: The bones of the story are preposterous as ever. Poor Blanchett, who has gone full vamp as Hela, is good as always but how lame it must be to be in the “fun” Thor movie and have to play one of the most blandly written villains ever. it’s a fairly flawed movie on the whole with egregious tonal shifts. Some of the gags go on too long with the Hulk with too little payoff and sometimes it seems as though there’s a mandate that every 25 minutes there will be a big fight no matter what. One particular army of the dead sequence seemed like it could have been lifted from a “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie — which is not the most flattering comparison. While Waititi’s energy and wit is apparent in the film, it still feels as though he had to operate from the same Marvel “base flavor” and was allowed on occasion to sprinkle a few of his own original toppings on. “Thor: Ragnarok” is the most fun of the Thor movies by a long shot, but it is still very much a Thor movie for better or worse.
So... not actually as glowing as it seems on the face of it, huh? I can go on, but I wont bore you. I wonder how these are adding up to such high numbers? Could it mean that the numbers are just shit after all? Something to think about...
Personally I hope the movie is a huge success because I want to see a good movie. And I hope JL is great too. But I don't put much stock in tomato meters.

It could mean that the whole is good enough to make up for parts they didn't like.
Anyways, people who say that Ragnarok is supposed to be a dark story about the destruction of the Gods don't know the original myth...even in the original myth there are surviving Gods who go elsewhere and start over. It's a cyclical thing where civilization ends temporarily but ends on the note that they WILL rebuild and start again.

I’m afraid I can’t claim credit for that rhetoric. That was from some DC fan crowing about how awesome Justice League was going to be in comparison to another Thor movie.
BTW, Thor has climbed to 99%. 67 to 1. Will Thor Ragnarok become the best reviewed superhero movie of the year, beating Logan and Spider-Man Homecoming?

You're probably right, and I hope that's the case, because like I said before, I want to see a good movie regardless of whether its Marvel or DC.
But as to Ragnarok being a dark story, you're right and your wrong. Some gods may survive it depending on which telling you're going for, but it is the ending of the gods and the end of a cycle of all the nine worlds so its not supposed to be lite. Still, this movie isn't about the TRUE Ragnarok, clearly. I think they should have saved that title for another Thor movie where they they do the real Ragnarok End of the Gods story. IF they do it.

I also love how he tries to spin this against MCU fans like all the other trolls. Is it obvious? That's because YES I did cherry pick some negative comments... to give proper context to whats being said. Otherwise the Marvel fans will just have a raging field day. We ALL need to take reviews with a grain of salt, even when they're good.
And I'm not "spinning" anything. I quoted. Quoting is repeating facts. Not spinning.

Well if you mean specifically DC FAN that guy does go overboard. Then there's WEIRDRAPTOR who goes overboard in the other direction. They both go so overboard in their extremes that sometimes I wonder if they're actually not the same guy posting under two different names just to stir shit up on the boards! lol
Thor Ragnarok: best reviewed comic book movie of the year? We'll see. It looks that way so far. I just want to see a good movie. But regardless, I'm seeing both Thor and JL so they both get my money. Then Disney wins again because I'm also going to see Star Wars!
They got me! They got me!!!

Odin dies, the Warriors 3 die and Asgard is completely destroyed with Thor and a few survivors leaving to hopefully create a colony on Earth at the end. It's the end of Asgard, with a few survivors hoping to start a new cycle elsewhere. That fits the legend.

Marveltards? scabab, if you'd do the honors? So, Marvel fans are in the wrong to rejoice at the latest Marvel movie getting positive buzz? Good to know you'll always be there to try to bring the party down.

Good to know you'll always be there to try to bring the party down. Where the hell did I say that you couldn't rejoice when a Marvel movie does well? On the contrary I'll rejoice with you. I've said before and I repeat, I also hope it does well because I want to see a good movie. I've seen all the Marvel movies in theatres and will continue to do so, because unlike you I enjoy comic book movies. You only enjoy marvel movies. I could care less which company they come from as long as they're good. We're in the golden age of comic book movies and you can only see the Marvel side of the picture.
Actually its YOU Weirdraptor who always has some shit to say about DC movies and comes out against them all the time. I remember you from all the posts you've put up before. Anyone with a minutes worth of time will be able to take a look and see for themselves. You're a "can dish it out, but cant take it" type. Go shout your one sided argument and cry somewhere else.

Because no one else is making good comic book movies. Yeah, because I have a mile-high list of issues with what the other companies are doing. Fox's X-Men refuses to embrace the camp comic book-y elements of their own mythos, adamantly remaining grim, joyless films that go over the same grounds time and again. And the DCEU is just a mess. Sorry, but the House of Mouse is the only place in town making good superhero movies. If I can't take the heat, how come I'm still arguing with you instead of running away?
