I hope so too. It's cool they are actually going through with a Shazam! movie. It'd seem like a character studio execs would easily dismiss as hokey like Plastic Man or way back in the day, before the MCU if anyone can remember, Captain America.

I have never understood why DC has created such confusion over this character. His real name is Captain Marvel, who only says, "SHAZAM!" in order to change from boy to superhero. I have even seen him called Shazam in some of the cartoons. He has even referred to himself as Shazam in these cartoons, which is stupid because if he says the word to transform into the hero and back again, then by saying it as his name he would automatically keep changing. I can only assume DC made this mistake because of the word Marvel and didn't want people to think it was from Marvel Comics, plus M.Comics also have a Captain Marvel who has now been switched from male to female.

Yeah it's all rights issues, the character is now called Shazam because Marvel won the legal rights iirc about 5 years ago outright so DC can no longer call him Captain Marvel at all, I think once they won the rights to the name Marvel upgraded Miss Marvel to Captain Marvel because they finally knew they didn't have to worry about losing the naming rights and cocking up their copyrights, which is why for decades instead of giving the name to a popular character to retain a rights claim they just created new characters to take the name periodically.

That's interesting but it doesn't solve the second problem when you hear him introduce himself as Shazam because as I say he is supposed to switch each time he says it. DC solved that problem with Captain Marvel Jr who switched each time he said, "Captain Marvel." by having his character call himself CM3 for this very reason.

The original Captain Marvel character was actually created for Fawcett Comics in 1939. Marvel Comics was awarded the trademark "Captain Marvel" in 1967.DC licensed from Fawcett Publications (the parent company of Fawcett Comics) the Marvel Family characters (which included the original Fawcett Comics' Captain Marvel and his sister Mary Marvel) in 1972 and acquired full rights to the characters by 1991.
Because Marvel was awarded the trademark in 1967, DC could still call the character Captain Marvel but couldn't publish the comic book with the title "Captain Marvel" so DC published the comic book with the title "Shazam!" In 2011, DC officially renamed the character to Shazam.

Just read someone say it's like how in Harry Potter they can say the names of curses without casting them, as such the "Shazam!" incantation needs to be done specifically to cause a transformation and not just because the word was said, supposedly the comics said it needs to be said with "conviction in his heart" or something, which makes more sense than just this random word uttered in any sense will cause lightning to strike and transform the kid, what if he says it in his sleep imagine the problems that could cause.
Also I dunno where I heard the lawsuit thing for 2012 cause now I cant find it and seems DC just gave up on naming the character Captain Marvel when most people assumed he was called Shazam because that's how DC had to market him for 40 years, apparently rebranding him and Ms Marvel around the same time was coincidental maybe? I dunno.
