Even if that were possible it wouldn't be indefinite because the universe marches on to heat death.
Tho transhumanists have explanations for that too.

It wasn't a direct reply, more of a response to the distant quote: "hopes to go on indefinitely by having his consciousness transferred to a computer disk." I was just adding conversation.

In my experience he is respected by pretty much everyone but you. I really have never seen him attack anyone, and his comments towards you that may have sounded like criticism were more in defense of when you attacked him or others. You have a distinct tendency to call other people names and be uncivil. This makes people more defensive than they would be otherwise. You've got it wrong. He is respected by your clique because he is so desperate to be accepted by the Alpha males that he will never do anything to upset you. Meh. As predicted. Yes, it is predictable that you would reject the actual situation that exists. I am not a member of any "clique" and AJ is quite mellow and hardly trying to pose as some sort of alpha male. He has disagreed with some of what I have posted, but he remains civil so the conversation stays on an evil keel. You seem to either consciously wish for conversations to get adversarial and vicious or it happens due to a character flaw that you are not consciously aware of having.

Ah, I gotcha. Just FYI though, "indefinite" means "an undefined period of time," so any consciousness-to-digital conversion would be "indefinite," with its possible end point being determined by events ranging from natural disasters to, as you suggested, universal heat death.

As I recall, Eva Yojimbo hopes to go on indefinitely by having his consciousness transferred to a computer disk. Hopefully he'll have a backup in case someone drops him and steps on him. "Hopes" might be too strong a word. I've mentioned that it might be a possibility sometime in the (probably distant) future and that it's better than the alternative. If consciousness-to-digital ever happens, it almost certainly isn't going to be on "discs," though. If something is a 1:1 copy down to the atomic level, how do you tell the difference between it and the original? It could be a copy so exact that it even thinks it's you, but it wouldn't be you, because human consciousness goes beyond the atomic level. Of course, being a materialist, you won't buy any of that, and I have no way of convincing you.

Hello RFS people. FYI: I deleted the entire "Why do christians need scientific proof that homosexuality.." thread because we couldn't keep up with the flood of reports coming in from it. I'm sure most of you remember my promise of minimal moderation for RFS. I am perfectly willing to let you guys do whatever it is you do, and I'm trying my best to stay out of the dramas here, but you're making it very difficult with the way you're all reporting each other. We've been tossing a few bones for RFS here and there, but if you all want minimal moderation, you all might consider minimal reporting because I can't stay out of your way if you insist upon dragging me (and the other mods) into the middle of your family feuds. -John Hi. First I'd like to say I don't envy your job, but thanks for doing it - it must be so hard. My suggestion would be to keep a record of serial reporters and after three reports give them a warning, after all there is an ignore choice (at least I'm assuming there is one, I'm still trying to figure my way around this new set-up). After three warnings, if the person still reports, then ban them. If people can't behave like adults then they shouldn't be on a board that is for adults. That's my two cents anyway.

Does the deleted thread take away from my post count? I'm trying to reach Senior Member by the Spring thaw and I have other important schedules to keep. I think this country will thaw over before I get to be a senior member.

Hi. First I'd like to say I don't envy your job, but thanks for doing it - it must be so hard. Thanks. The neighborhood watch system has proven to be invaluable here. I have no intention of dissuading anyone from reporting what ever they wish to report. I've repeatedly encouraged all the members here to report anything they feel should be reported no matter how insignificant it may seem to them. I will never impose such a limit, especially one that would result in some sort of punishment. If the reports become too numerous for us to handle, we'll just get more moderators. My OP in this thread wasn't meant to imply that RFS was reporting too much. I was only trying to help RFS help me keep my promise. ps. The ignore function here is called "block," and it can be found by clicking the gear icon on a member's profile page, or by going to your privacy settings: Profile > Edit Profile (button) > Privacy (tab).

You can't convince me because you have no evidence for the claim beyond your wishful thinking. Translation: = You can't convince me because I have hopes for the claim that are emotional wishful thinking. And what wishful thinking would that be? Just like with homosexuality being genetic, all the best current scientific evidence correlates conscious mind states with physical brain states, and there is no evidence of consciousness outside that. So my belief is aligned with the evidence, not the hope/wish hope that consciousness will survive after brain death.
