Clearly the scene in the trailer where Rey and Kylo seem to be reaching out to each other is a false flag, but was it something more? When I watched TFA the first time (and the 20th time), I never got the impression that Rey and Kylo were headed for romance. As I've posted before, I think it's more likely a sibling rivalry. But then the internet was like: REYLO!!!!!!And so I watched the movie a few times through that lens and I thought, okay, I...guess...I can see the plausibility. Maybe 3/10 strength of argument. But some of you are pretty sure and even more are obsessed with the notion even if you find it unlikely. My first question: Did Disney flat-out troll the Reylo crowd in the trailer? I actually think they did. Which leads to other questions, like, exactly how many Disney employees have accounts on message boards? How many are frequenting comment threads? Are you one of them? Am I one of them?

i think if Disney wanted the Skywalker legacy to continue than Ben would have to father a child, Rey is the most likely option

Of course Disney intentionally trolled the Reylo crowd. They've trolled in every SW trailer that they've ever done.
They (perhaps unintentionally) trolled in the Rogue One trailer. The trailers were never adjusted to convey the massive reshoots. So the trailers gave the impression of a movie much more centered around Jen. And it also seemed to give the impression that Cassian and Jen might be a bigger dynamic, and Saw Guerrera might get more screen time.
TFA trailers trolled even more. They trolled the idea that it would be a fresh homage to the OT. Not conveying how much it would rehash ANH. It trolled the idea that Rey and Finn might be an action hero team with possibly equal billing. Not once letting on that Finn was mostly a bumbling sidekick. It trolled the idea that Finn might also be a Jedi (or at least a Force user) showing a scene where he starts combat with a lightsaber. It also trolled the idea that Han Solo was responsible for the fancy flying of the Millennium Falcon on Jakku since the iconic "Chewie we're home." scene directly preceded or followed the stunt flying of the Millennium Falcon through the Jakku desert. And no one could've foreseen Rey's "non-traditional hero's journey/MarySueish Force connection" from the trailers.
Anyone who takes Disney SW trailers (at this stage in the game) at face value is probably inviting themselves to be trolled.

Trailers will always marry up unmarried scenes to portray something different than what the actual movie reveals. What I'm specifically asking is, do you think Disney was well-aware of the Reylo phenomenon and did they intentionally edit the trailer to troll the proponents of said phenomenon? Or answer it this way: if the Reylo idea had not picked up steam on the internet, would the TLJ trailer have featured a supposed Reylo moment? What I'm saying is: Disney never would have thought of that, but then the internet blew up and so Disney recognized that crowd and intentionally tried to fuck with them or give them the old wink/nod.

Hmmmm... I tend to think the answer to your question is yes. I tend to think that Disney pays a lot of attention to trends in their audience demographics. For instance I think the Poe and Finn coupling is just a tease Disney has put out there for the sake of the LGBT demographic that doesn't have any indisputable onscreen evidence. (At least not yet). All of the actors are always vague when asked about it but still throw out teases whenever questioned about it. I believe that's the instruction that they're getting from Disney. As far as Reylo, I agree that there's mostly no onscreen evidence of it in TFA. The closest thing that comes to indisputable onscreen evidence is the scene where Kylo mind probes Rey. And he spews some line about "Do you see the island? I see it too. (Blah blah blah)". And he says it in a creepy stalker tone of voice. But yes, I think that Disney has caught on to the Reylo internet buzz. I suppose that they might've invented the idea to troll a Reylo scene anyway. But I think it's more likely motivated by Disney's observation of the Reylo internet buzz.

But I think it's more likely motivated by Disney's observation of the Reylo internet buzz. I agree with your film synopses. There's the "you need a teacher" line and the angle idea that Rey and Kylo are a reincarnation of the story of Padme and Anakin (the three trilogies being a ring and all), except this time, they'll live happily ever after. Well, until Episode X. But the former is only what I categorize as "arguably" a piece of evidence and the latter is simply artistic speculation. Not much there. Yet. It's a given that Disney has employees whose job it is to surf the net and see what people are saying about their assets. But what I want to talk about is .imdb and then, as it follows, this site. Do you think there's someone on this site who works for Disney?

Rey is annoying as hell but surely she's attractive enough to hook up with someone better than that douchebag with the awful haircut.

The real trailer troll was making people think Kylo would kill Leia. The scene at the end was meant to troll Reylo, but it's still gonna happen.

lol, "trailer trolling" is that an expression now? Like fish trolling to get a lot of the poor fish into the net.
Well the trailer was surely misleading as to Kylo shooting his mommy with the Vader-Tie; IMO immaculate Rey going to the dark side after her selfless Sue-ness in TFA (even choosing to starve rather than selling a cute droid she just met) would rather be silly and forced. Hope they don't do that (same with Luke, but that may be another story).
Same with falling for this horse-faced Emo-Ren guy, I mean yikes, I rather believe she will turn handsome Poe to the straight side with mind tricks than going full Reylo.

They'll probably wind up tossing a bone to lay the foundation for a hint of speculation on the part of the Reylo shippers. It's Zutara all over again.

REY: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here. I've got to save you! KYLO REN: You already have, Rey. You were right. You were right about me. Tell our unborn baby that I just splooged into you before the 3rd act... you were right. Close call on that Skywalker legacy, Kennedy.

TLJ itself trolled a good chunk of TFA fans hoping for satisfying answers to J.J.'s mystery box setups. It also felt like a parody of a Star Wars film, a la Family Guy or Robot Chicken: - Poe's "Can you hear me now?" convo with Hux - Luke casually tossing his long lost lightsaber behind him after a dramatic 2-year build up - Snoke going all meta on Kylo Ren for losing to a noob who's never even held a lightsaber before - Chewie's about to eat a roasted porg when another one gives him big puppy dog eyes

The reaching out along with Rey's emotional vulnerability. REY: I need someone... to show me my place in all this. KYLO REN: Don't be afraid. I feel it, too. LEIA: Stop that. HAN: Stop what? LEIA: Stop that. My hands are dirty. HAN: My hands are dirty, too. What are you afraid of? REY: LOL, can you please put a shirt on? KYLO REN: Sorry, babe... Laundry's in the wash... I'm a dirty boy... REY: Oh... ? KYLO REN: Yup. The twist is... I don't wear black because I'm evil. I wear it cuz I'm dirty... REY: Hehe! KYLO REN: Better watch yo'self, girl... before you get some of this dirt... onya...
