It is happening, but Feige has said that they're focusing on the next six movies before they do make it.

That's too bad. A sequel that went even further with the cosmic lore would be cool.

But I should still watch it, though. Innit?

But I should still watch it, though. Innit? The MCU formula is many things, some of them less than endearing, but worthy enough of your time. Plus I think Dr Strange like many others is best utilised in a team dynamic. His cameos and role in ensembles could be very good. In Ragnorak he worked well. Now he’s gotten his origin story out of the way he really seems like a good character.

Now that he's established I think they can have more fun with his lore.

Man of science/empirical evidence becomes an emissary to the world of magic and mysticism... Stan was a genius at taking seemingly disparate elements and combining them into one character to create inherent tension.

And that's an interesting angle, but the movie doesn't really play it up at all. Maybe if they'd had a scene early on where he laughs off the suggestion of magic... There's really only that one scene with Tilda where he makes fun of it, but it comes too late. His life as a doctor in act one feels awlwardly removed from the rest of the movie. His character arc could've been: man of science goes from skeptic to believer, but they didnt really go that route.

I'm not a hardcore Dr. Strange fan, and his entry was far from my favorite in the MCU. That said, I thought his initial meeting with the Ancient One did an excellent job of showing you a stubborn man of science/traditional medicine who is forced to confront a new reality of alternate dimensions and the mystic arts. He literally laughed off the suggestion of magic in that scene. I think that approach would have been too on-the-nose. The way they left Strange at the end was fine. He's a man who has discovered new powers and has a new purpose. And, he's trying to reconcile all of that with his former beliefs.

It just feels awkward to me how they go from this real world drama of an injured surgeon to a goofy joke filled world of magic. It's a radical tonal shift that has very little thematic consistency. Think about this: almost all of the movie's most dramatic moments come in act one. That's extremely odd for any story.
