9/10
Best Sci-Fi series in years. Incredibly high prodution value and love for details: Belter Creole, the effects of gravitation or the lack of, economy, poverty, social and political conflicts and the scarceness of ressources like air, water or even paid work. Also great characters and an even better development; they really grow. I had it rarely that so many characters I disliked at first became over the time my favourites (Bobbie or Avasarala). Only Game of Thrones managed that before (Jaime, Sansa, Cercei).
Last but not least the motifs of the character: people or factions that appeared to function as the mere villains who you are so accustomed to turn out to be charcaters with a far more complex structure and more so, with sound motifs you can relate to, plausible ones: just like the nature of the proto-molecule itself. That's very important to me: plausebility of the actions and the motifs behind them.
The show has a plan.

Somewhere between 8 and 9. The fully-fleshed out universe "The Expanse" is set in is the most enjoyable thing for me. I hope this show can survive.

That series pleasantly surprised me. It was very enjoyable. I did not expect SyFy to air such a quality show.

A 7 so far, but I haven't finished the second season yet. I like the show more than the book (only read the first one, do not care to read the other two parts), although the character of Joe Miller did work better in the books (he gets more time, his motives are explained better).

Season 1: 10/10 Best SF series I've seen since Firefly.
Looking forward to second and third seasons.
And now I want to read the books, too.
Rare SF.

Finished the second season and it is even better than the first. Maybe I need to give the 1st a 9/10 because the second is definitely better.
And there is a lot going on in this series. Looking forward to S3.
I'm not worried about the move to Amazon but I am worried about where the story is headed, if the source material will run out? I don't know how much of the novels they have adapted to the series so far.
And I wonder how this will stand up to repeated viewings. That's the problem I had with shows like 24, Lost and Battlestar Galactica.

I tried episode 1 when it came out, and didn't much care for it. Recently I've heard several people raving about it as the best sci fi show ever made, so I thought I'd give it a go. I watched the whole of season 1 over a couple of days... and I just can't get into it. I really want to like it, but I find it takes more and more effort to make myself watch it.
I'm sorry, I just find it kind of boring. There literally isn't one character in the whole thing that I find interesting or particularly memorable. That Earth politician lady stood out a bit, but that was mostly because she was in Star Trek Beyond. But I just don't care that much about any of the characters or what happens to them, because I don't have any real sense of who they are or what they're motivated by.
I see it described as a sci-fi Game of Thrones sometimes, and that's the big difference for me. One or two episodes into Game of Thrones I had a real sense of a bunch of the characters, who they were, what they wanted, what drove them. The Expanse just never did that for me, not in the whole season.
But I'll give it a 5, just because I can see that it's really well made by people who obviously care about their show and want it to be good. So it has my respect. It's just not a good fit for me, alas.

It's more like a modern political thriller, except with Earth and Mars as the super-powers and the Belt as the volatile third world. I'll freely admit that, at least as of season 1, I found the main characters to be the weakest aspect of the show. They do grow on you, and the new actors that are introduced starting in season 2 greatly enrich the cast of characters. The backstory and development on the main characters remains very much on a slow burn as of the end of season 3.

I hope you do like season 2 better, if you give it a shot. At the same time, I recognize that it's not a show that will appeal to everyone, and as I noted the writers are taking their sweet time in developing some of the main characters, so I respect the opinion of anyone who has given 'The Expanse' a fair shot.

At first I loathed Avasarala and Draper, but by now they have become my favourites. The only main char I don't like in all three season is Holden.

Holden is the closest "The Expanse" has to a generic, square-jawed hero who will always do the right thing. Every show needs one, I guess.

I struggled a little bit to finish season 1 (I was having a hard time keeping track of who was who and what had happened in previous episodes, since I watched them over a long period) but after season 2 I became a big fan. It gets a 9 from me.
