I've just accepted it was nothing more than an easter egg for years wasn't something I considered a lingering mystery.
But yes, that's their way of completely closing that gap.

It was originally meant as an easter egg but they have since had the entire MCU revolve around the IG so they had to do something. I thought it was clever to do it in throwaway fashion like this.

I agree. Honestly, I always treated it like what it was, an easter egg. I really don't know why people get worked up about stuff like that when it's obvious what was happening, but if they felt the need to tie up that thread, then casually dismissing it is a good way to go in my opinion. |

I still really like the theory that Odin collected the stones in the past, then things got too crazy and that is why he cast out Hela, covered it all up, became benevolent, and showcased his “fake” gauntlet.
I mean, you can really get into all the aspects of Asgard that he attributed stone powers to.

I never understood why it had to be a fake. I mean, I know they had explain that other Infinity Guantlet since Thanos had his own, but surely, Eitri could have made multiple gauntlets over the years. Maybe, Odin was interested in obtaining the Infinity Stones.
