Christmas sucks, I don't start celebrating it period. The music sucks, the overly sentimental phoniness of it all sucks, and the constant advertising sucks. Most people only celebrate Christmas because they've been brainwashed into doing so, people are brain dead sheep who will do anything authority figures tell them to do, in this case the authority figures being the mainstream media and/or their family, so they do it without thinking. With any research they would realize that the story behind Christmas is a load of shit and the whole holiday is both an attempt by the church to brainwash you and an attempt by corporations to get you to buy stuff. I also get so sick of the fake happiness and cheesy sentimentality of it, people telling you to be kind and merry and all without knowing you, well guess what, life isn't like fairy tales, there are no happy endings and not everyone has a perfect family to celebrate with. Suicides always spike during the holiday season because people feel worthless if they aren't happy or don't have family because that's what a bunch of assholes tell them. I don't buy anything for Christmas, I never watch any of those god-awful sentimental phony trash Christmas movies, and I would rather listen to a recording of nails on a chalkboard than listen to Christmas music. Christmas is garbage and a sign of how stupid people are and what a screwed up society we live in. Fuck Christmas Best laugh I've had today, classic xeliou! Also hates birthdays, bar mitzvahs, sympathy for hurricane-hit cities, and if Teddy Bridgewater came back and led the Vikings to the Super Bowl, he wouldn't want him to get any more attention or praise than any other QB. I think it's obvious and has been that he just doesn't have friends to spend holidays and special occasions with so he hates them. He doesn't buy anything for Christmas cause he has no one to buy shit for. His best friend is the mailman cause they had a 27 second conversation about the weather 8 months ago. In the future he's gonna end up like Joaquin Phoenix in that movie Her, trying to fuck his computer

No, Christmas goes away too soon. Yeah, that's overlooked. Personally, I start getting in the mood last wkend of November or so. Binge on the usual fare, mostly movies & whatever special foods the grocery store is throwing in my face. Then with about a week before Christmas proper, I settle down & let the family stuff wash over. Dec 26th I'm pretty much ready to start the new year. I've always felt that Christmas-NewYear's week is the slowest week of the year as if it had some slowed gravitational pull. Probably because I've lost track of days & dates throughout & it's a blur... with short days & colder nights. Jan 2nd, the speed of life gets nicely back on track.

That's why I'm a fan of putting up Christmas lights up in the first week of November.

I don't bother.
For Christmas I: Adopt an animal at a shelter for my daughter, and my dad. Have a football acca on some games in some Muslim country or other.
And that's it.

Thinking I'm going to stretch Christmas out this year until Groundhog's Day. Sure there's the NFL Playoffs, college hoops is gearing up for conference play, pitchers and catchers report soon, NFL and NHL are pretty much in full swing - but do the games really matter for the most part before the All-Star break(s) (as long as you 'hang in there' and can make a run last third of the season). Here in the Northeast we pretty much have 2 hours of sunlight in Jan/Feb and it's dark, cold and grey. Why not be in a festive mood as much as possible? This is the best time of the year in my eyes - Can't wait until Turkey Day and the Cowboys and Lions. One of the greatest days of the year.

Too early. Day after Thanksgiving in our household, and everything comes down January 1. Do you partake in 'Black Friday' shopping the day after and immediately start putting up your decorations? Used to love that day off from work - was one of those people that would join the craze at 5:00am going shopping. Hey - it's about the craziness and atmosphere. Stop early morning to have some brews at a local pub (I wouldn't drive)- Oklahoma/Nebraska college football used to be on this day - don't know if it still is - catch some of the game - pick up a Christmas Tree. Awesome 4 day weekend - I reccomend to all to take off that Monday too - enjoy yourself on that Sunday Night

I say start because decorating has stretched into a two day event the last few years; small children complicate things. I don't do a ton of shopping in stores, it's 95% online for me these days. It is an awesome 4-day weekend, great way to wrap up fall and kickoff the holiday season.

How do you decorate the tree? Are you a 'tinsel' or a 'garland' type of guy. I'm rocking the tinsel these days and I know it can get messy. Also - lights - multi lights or one color? I've found myself getting 'simpler' so to speak and just rock the white............found too much color can be a little tacky.

Numptie: (Scottish colloquialism), a stupid person, a figure of ridicule.
"Coca Cola is made from dried beetles."
"Is it?"
"Of course not, you numptie."

Garland around the railings leading upstairs from the center hallway, garland with lights around the railing on the front porch. A couple of smaller (fake) trees (with lights) flanking the front door. A wreath on the front door, one of those light up grazing reindeer in the front yard (the first of many, knowing my wife) and a light up hanging reindeer on the back porch.
Real tree always (and we've got plenty of woods on our property so disposal is a snap), and monochrome lights (just switched to LEDs last year and damn are those things bright). Tons of ornaments, classy and cheesy alike. We don't do tinsel or garland on the tree though.
