...you can toss all sorts of leftovers and table scraps into it. Seems I always have a small pot of soup on hand, and whenever I have little amounts of leftover rice, bread crumbs, pieces of chicken, sausage, beans (both baked and green), fried or mashed potatoes, ham, you name it - into the pot it goes. I've inadvertently made some interesting soups that way. lol

I had the shavings of a pot roast left over from the night before. Tossed it with my eggs and it was the breakfast I ever had.
