SMH had a massive drop of 60% on its 2nd weekend going head-to-head against War for the Planet of the Apes and another huge drop of 50% on its 3rd weekend going head-to-head against Dunkirk. Will Ragnarok beat that and drop even more on its 2nd weekend going head-to-head against Murder on the Orient Express and on its 3rd weekend going head-to-head against Justice League?

Justice League will dominate Thor Ragnarok upon its release.
Hee hee hee...
Isn't it pretty damn embarrassing that we're discussing both those films in the same sentence? At one point in fandom history the idea of a stand alone Thor movie competing on any level with a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie featuring Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman would have been seen as preposterous.

Thor does better worldwide. 60% of the first movie & 68% of the second. Homecoming made 62% of its money worldwide.

Hee hee hee... Hee hee hee... I don't think it can dominate it at this point. Thor is going to open with about 120. I mean is JL going to do better than 130? I don't think very many people think so. Is 130 dominating compared to 120? I wouldn't say so, and that's a best case for JL.
The realistic thing here is that we are living in a world where Thor by himself can compete very much equally with a JL film, and that's quite a strong statement about how much stronger the Marvel brand really is right now.

This would be really remarkable if a silly Thor: FraggleRock movie could beat a grandly advertised "Spiderman & Iromane into the MCU movie". I personally do not think so. But these are just commercial junk food movies for the dumb masses and lesser efforts artistically. The bigger questions in the historical context are: 1. Will WW be the first CBM to be nominated for major categories at the Globes and the Oscars as the buzz suggests..? That despite the tough competition a la Lady Bird, Dunkirk et al? 2. Will the DCEU and DC movies get another Oscar and GG and thus fortify their Award Club Member position, and also remedy the historical failure and infamy that the cinematic milestone TDK did not get a Best Film award (just actors!). 3. Will the new JL be any good despite a product of two antagonistic style cooks? A very exiting artistic question that. This movie is worth seeing for the artistic, cinematographic and directional evaluation alone! These are the relevant questions for the thinking CMB fan; regardless of results I'm so exited, we are experiencing CMB history in the making!!!!!!

I hope it, cause Spiderman was boring. But i doubt it. Thor and Hulk doesn't have Spider-Mans popularity status.

1. Will WW be the first CBM to be nominated for major categories at the Globes and the Oscars as the buzz suggests..? Nah, but the whole Weinstein scandal is giving it another artificial booster. Now the Academy will be even MORE desperate to prove they aren't all misogynists. Thankfully there are GOOD movies about women out now, to draw their attention to. Like Lady Bird.

DC-fanboy is being too easy on Thor Ragnarok by setting the bar so low. 60% drop off ... that’s nothing.
Let’s make this a real contest by comparing it to the 70% drop off enjoyed by “one of the greatest super hero movies evah!” ... Batman v Superman. The gold standard of tent-pole disappointments.

It depends. Spider-man had big drops because the movie released during the school holidays, so it had very strong weekdays so naturally fell harder on the weekend.
But then there were articles making a big fuss about how it had the biggest second weekend drop without understanding why.
In the end it actually had really good legs for a superhero movie. It would seem unlikely Thor would do the same.

You expect MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS to be major competitor to a Marvel movie? I'm looking forward to that myself but those types of films aren't blockbusters anymore.

MOTOE will out gross both Thor Ragnarok and Justice League! And it will all be thanks to Daisy Ridley! You know The Last Jedi will earn a billion because of her!

I think it may end up being the biggest CBM of the year.
I think both Thor and moreso Justice League will have strong competition in the UK in Paddington 2.
