At some point I plan to watch a production of Pagliacci aired in 1954 on Italian television. I have it on DVD. This is part of my plan to watch shows from around the world.
If anyone can recommend me some other opera presentations produced for European TV during the 20th century, please do. But keep in mind, I'd prefer operas which aren't too long......

teleadm No idea if you find this interesting, but I watched the 1954 Italian TV production of Pagliacci and enjoyed it. Although shot live in the studio, it wasn't static at all, there were a good deal of camera movement and close-ups which helped maintain visual interest. I'd like to see more productions of this type.

“Live From The Metropolitan Opera” premiered in 1977. These programs were broadcast live from NYC on PBS in the United States. This is important to me personally because I watched the premier episode (I think it was in March). The wonderful production of “La Bohème” with Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto, with James Levine conducting is the very event that converted me to an opera lover – something that continues to this day. In the 21st century, the Met Opera broadcasts about a dozen Saturday matinee performances per year live in HD to movie theaters. Later, videos of the movie broadcasts are made available to local PBS stations.
