I just finished Season 1 of Wynonna Earp the night before last, and then watched the first episode of Season 2 last night. I really enjoyed Season 1. I’d first seen Melanie Scrofano, who plays Wynonna, in that Damien series and – for me – she was the most interesting thing about it. Sadly, her character didn’t last and I was disappointed, but seeing that she got to be the lead in her own show more than made up for it. Melanie’s perfect as the character of Wynonna. She can deliver the snarky one-liners, but I also completely believe her in the more emotional scenes when we’re allowed to see Wynonna’s vulnerabilities. It’s a fine line between playing a ‘tough’ character and coming off as trying too hard, but she always remains likeable for me. The same goes for delivering the snarky one-liners. If done wrong, it can make a character come across as just plain unlikeable. However, I think she manages to make her character endearing, even when she’s making mistakes/wrong choices, and I hate seeing her get hurt (be it physically or emotionally). One such scene I saw recently showed her breaking down, releasing all these emotions from everything she'd had to endure (and things she was forced to do). Not many show leads have made me feel for them like she did in that^ scene. Though it’s not all sadness and depression, there are light-hearted/funny moments too. I like that her character is allowed to not always be/look 'cool' and has a comedic side too (which Melanie Scrofano plays so well). One of my favourite moments was when Wynonna completely lost it over the sight of a motorbike she obviously adored in Season 1. And then there was an exchange in the first episode of Season 2 which I found quite amusing: Nedley: “Earp, you may be the hero that Purgatory deserves. You're just not the one it needs right now.” Wynonna: “Big Batman fan, huh?” Nedley: “Hell, no. When that franchise lost Uma Thurman they lost Randy Nedley for good.” Wynonna: “You truly are a monster.” Another amusing moment in the episode was Doc losing his hat to a demon. RIP Doc’s hat. As Wynonna commented... Speaking of Doc, I really enjoy his character’s interaction with not only Wynonna, but everybody else. That goes for the rest of characters too. I’m happy the ‘regular’ cast of this show is so small – it’s only four – as I like them all, but the recurring characters are quite good too. I think Melanie Scrofano and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (who plays her sister Waverly) have great sibling chemistry. I totally buy them as sisters, and I enjoy whenever they’re together. When the show started, I thought Waverly was just the sweetest character ever, she was cute, funny and endeared herself to me almost immediately, but she’s shown she can contribute so much than you might first expect to not only the group, but the show itself. Her character is smart, resourceful, courageous and not some pushover. There’s a lot more to her than may have first appeared. I wasn’t expecting to see Rachel Skarsten in the first episode (who I mainly know as Tamsin from Lost Girl, but more recently Queen Elizabeth I in Reign). It's a shame she ended up being rather wasted on just one episode. I like the fact Dolls is showing more personality as the show goes on – as I felt he was rather lacking in that department in the first few episodes of Season 1. However, as I've watched more episodes he’s gotten way more interesting/likeable and I really like the partnership (and friendship) that’s developed between him and Wynonna. I like all of the main cast here (which doesn't always happen) - it helps that the cast is relatively small in number - and that goes a long way towards my enjoyment of a show. After Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel both finished, I thought I'd never find another show to fill the void left by them. Other shows came along that I thought might've...but they didn't end up being quite the same. The only show I felt had the same 'feel' as BtVS/AtS was Lost Girl, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Then it finished and I was in the same situation, wishing to find another show like it. Thankfully Wynonna Earp has the same 'feel' as those other three shows did and has done a nice job filling the void left by them. It has quickly become a new favourite of mine. Anyway, this post is long enough as it is, but I’ll have more to say as I watch further episodes of Season 2. If you're a fan of the show, please feel free to discuss it here.

I've only seen s1 so far, but I really enjoyed it, too. I keep waiting for s2 to be on Netflix here (it's not available on dvd/blu-ray/tv at all here), but it looks like I'll be waiting a long time. The soonest we can expect it here is June 2018.

Over the past week I’ve watched episodes 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 of Season 2, so if my thoughts on them are all over the place/not in chronological order...it’s simply because they’ve all blurred together in my (admittedly shoddy) memory. I thought Melanie Scrofano was amazing as Wynonna-possessed-by-tentacle-goo (or ‘Goononna’ as I saw her named elsewhere). She was equal parts freaky/scary and morbidly amusing. I liked how she’d go from smiling fiendishly to seemingly ‘normal’ (for the benefit of keeping up her facade with others) and then drop the act again in a split second. Adding to the overall creepiness of her performance was when Wynonna would manage to gain control for a brief moment. I liked that she was willing to let Dolls cut off a finger because she knew it had to be done. I'd previously been shocked at Waverly losing a hand (but thankfully it grew back whilst she was possessed) and I was also surprised that the tentacle didn’t immediately regret jumping into Wynonna after it was subjected to her diet of booze, doughnuts, pancakes, etc. Possessed Waverly (or ‘Gooverly’) was also interesting (and I don’t just mean her eating things one shouldn’t eat, such as spiders and lipstick). I’m sure Nicole Haught appreciated her cheerleading routine (as should’ve just about everyone watching). Kudos to Dominique Provost-Chalkley for that routine, which I’m sure she worked her butt off practicing. Good on Nicole for knowing Waverly would never ask her to shoot Wynonna, and thereby realizing she’d been re-possessed. I do like the Wynonna/Nicole dynamic. They’re not exactly ‘friends’, but Wynonna gets that her sister and Nicole love each other and has come to accept them together. Nicole also seems to not always be very fond of Wynonna, but will listen to her (most of the time) when it counts. The widows and their face-ripping nastiness was rather unpleasant to see (you just *know* when someone tells someone else that a person’s “putting on her face” that it doesn’t mean what you think it would...especially when they say it in a creepy way. Even if it hadn’t been said in that way...does anyone even use that phrase in real life anymore?). The creeper brother is super annoying and he can’t die soon enough. He’s got an exceptionally punchable face (which goes hand-in-hand with his irritating way of speaking). I was surprised by Lucado’s head exploding...though I can’t say I’m overly broken up about it. I’m also not usually fond of pregnancy storylines in shows. However, given that Melanie Scrofano was apparently pregnant for real, it was inevitable that they’d write it in. I’m not going to hate on the storyline when I haven’t seen how it’s played out as yet. Given the ‘wackiness’ of this show, things could go a lot of different ways with this development. The scene between Wynonna and Waverly, with her sister comforting her as she was dealing with this big news and what it meant for her was really well-done, I thought. Very emotionally impactful. Dolls turns out to be...a dragon? That's interesting. Though him being a jerk to both Wynonna and the guy he had her finish off was annoying. Jealousy isn’t a good look on him when it comes to her and Doc (same goes for Doc regarding Wynonna and Dolls). Speaking of...Doc finally got another hat! It was about time. Also, I thought it was amusing that he was so proud of his new car having a cassette player. I was surprised to see Brendan Fehr (Michael from Roswell) in the show as a…demon-hunting fireman? I wasn’t sure it was him to begin with, but he looked familiar almost instantly. It was a bit more trickier working out whether I was seeing Jack Bartlett from Heartland or not, given that Shaun Johnston didn’t have his signature mustache (though his voice was the same – which made it super confusing, as I kept thinking “Is that Jack or isn’t it?”). These last few episodes have been really good. I'm looking forward to watching more. some fans might have been disappointed they didn't get a blonde to play the role
That's surprising, @deblovesbeccy - given that oftentimes it seems to be the blondes who certain people hate on (for no good reason). I think Melanie Scrofano has done a great job so far
I agree, and she was so lovely to meet in person.

Tried watching it. Couldn't stand it. And I'm a big fan of Buffy, Xena, Alias, and many many other female lead action shows. Now I just record Wynonna Earp and fast forward to the good scenes where there is action or cheerleader routines etc.
BTW, I've never read the comics but they don't seem to resemble the show.

Ohh. There is a reason alright and it is 'cause they are jealous of us. I don’t know if you’ve seen Melanie Scrofano with blonde hair or not, DebLovesBeccy...but the first time I can recall seeing her was in the TV series Damien, where she was sporting blonde locks. So I don’t know if the makers of Wynonna Earp just decided they didn’t want their interpretation of the character to be blonde or what, but this is what she would’ve looked like if they’d tried have her more closely resemble the character from the comics which you showed me. I have just devoured s2, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hirundo, you beat me to it dagnammit! So, I finished Season 2 of Wynonna Earp last night. I’d watched the last umpteen episodes together, one straight after the other, but watched the final on its own. Anyway, my thoughts on the episodes will probably be a bit of a mishmash. I thought Wynonna was still her amusing/snarky self, even while pregnant. I liked how she used her bump to 'bump' others, she even high-fived with it, I think. Being pregnant did not dimnish her awesomeness. I felt sorry for human Bobo when he was talking about being a good man...though he kind of undid that by leaving Doc trapped in the well. Speaking of, I also felt sorry for Doc once he was stuck in the well again. Those two widow sisters were getting annoying, and the one who was rotting or whatever looked quite gross. Wynonna and Doc teaming up to take them both out was great (and Doc showed off just how amazing his shooting skills actually are - nice accuracy). Nedley proved himself a pretty stand-up guy when he was being tortured, but wouldn’t betray Wynonna (he got some amusing snarky lines too). I’m glad Wynonna herself acknowledged it. The alternate reality stuff was interesting...though I seriously missed Wynonna, as she’s easily my favourite character in the show. Melanie Scrofano was awesome in the scene with Waverly and Rosita (who was going to steal her child as soon as it was born), telling Waverly she *was* an Earp, and calling to Peacemaker as Waverly made the shot. Kudos to her for managing all these^ sorts of heavily emotional scenes whilst preggers in real life. She also did really well in the scene near the end when she was sitting by herself. It was nice of her to name hers and Doc’s daughter after both their mothers. I felt sorry for both of them that they only got to spend a brief moment with their kid (though sending the child off was not only the best thing for it, but also the best thing for the show, as babies ruin TV shows most of the time, I find). Both seasons of Wynonna Earp have been very enjoyable, and this quickly turned into one of my new favourite shows (I only have a handful of shows I currently watch on TV/DVD/Blu-ray which I’d deem ‘favourites’). It’s going to be a LONG wait for me before I ever get to see Season 3. I hope the show continues on for quite a few seasons, as I think it totally deserves to. I love the main cast (and some of the guest stars as well). Most of all I’m going to miss seeing Melanie Scrofano on a regular basis. I will certainly miss all the creative ways Wynonna swears/curses (kudos to her/MS for finally getting to use the 'F word' in a sentence near the end of the episode). This show is right up there alongside BtVS, AtS and Lost Girl for me. They all have a similar ‘feel’ to them, I think. They don’t take themselves too seriously, but they’re not so silly that it’s embarrassing. They all have a healthy dose of action, comedy, drama, horror/violence and a bit of romance. I'm going to miss watching this show...but hey, I can always rewatch the first two seasons (I might be able to catch some of the dialogue I missed first time around. If I had one minor 'nitpick' with the show, it's that sometimes I missed some of the dialogue - which was a shame, as I think I was missing out on some really good/funny one-liners). Goodbye for now, show.

That is awesome news Chalice. Hopefully it gets a season 5 too 'cause there are too many good Canadian shows on the Syfy Channel that don't make it passed Season 4 and 'Dark Matter' and 'The Librarians' were two that I was enjoying that were cancelled recently and '12 Monkeys' is ending this season. I am yet to see Season 3 too Chalice but we are currently re-watching Season One on DVD along with 'Travelers', 'Continuum', 'Haven' and 'Falling Skies' and I love Canadian shows.

If you hadn't mentioned it to me previously, DebLovesBeccy, I wouldn't have even known that Continuum *had* a fourth season, as only the first three were released where I am on DVD/Blu-ray. I don't think we'll ever get Season 4 here (then again, there was a big gap in between some seasons of Lost Girl - it got to the point where I asked a person at the place I go to to buy my DVDs/Blu-rays/CD's etc whether the later seasons were ever going to get released here, but thankfully they weren't too far away - though there'd been a long wait up until that point). I have yet to watch my DVDs of The Librarians Seasons 2, 3 & 4 (I'd started Season 2 when I first bought it, but then got sidetracked by the many other DVDs/Blu-rays I had to watch). I do think it was time 12 Monkeys wrapped things up, though. I've enjoyed its run so far, but it'd be a shame if it ran on too long (as so many shows tend to do). I will get to watching Travelers at some point. If you're rewatching the first two seasons of Wynonna Earp, please don't hesitate to post any thoughts you have on the seasons while rewatching, as I'd very much welcome them.

If you're rewatching the first two seasons of Wynonna Earp, please don't hesitate to post any thoughts you have on the seasons while rewatching, as I'd very much welcome them. I wasn't aware of that Chalice. I watched the four seasons of 'Continuum' on the Syfy Channel on Foxtel and ordered them on DVD on Amazon when they were released and own the complete series and I got a lot of TV shows from the American Amazon store 'cause they were cheaper to buy there than at many of our shops here and I got all the seasons of 'Lost Girl' on Amazon too. Since we got blocked from ordering on the American store they have added a lot of movies and TV shows they didn't have on the Australian store before and put down the prices of them too and I just did a search for 'Continuum' on there and they have the four seasons but you have to buy Season 4 from the marketplace and it is $34.46 instead of $14.59 like all the other seasons and it was around $20 when I got it on the American Amazon before. Some shows are surprisingly cheaper on the Australian Amazon than the American Amazon and 'Dark Matter' is one of those shows and I think it is 'cause they are Canadian 'cause it is the same case with a number of other Canadian shows like 'Haven', 'Falling Skies', 'Bitten', 'Eureka', Wynonna Earp', 'Travelers' and 'The Librarians.'
I loved 'The Librarians' show and was disappointed it got cancelled but without spoiling anything for you I am kinda happy with the way it ended 'cause it didn't end continued like 'Dark Matter' and 'Resurrection' so don't let that turn you off watching the rest of it. I can't remember if I asked you if you have seen 'The Librarian' movies too 'cause if you haven't you should check them out. There are three of them called 'The Librarian: Quest for the Spear', 'The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines' and 'The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice' and the TV show is the continuation to 'The Liberian' movies and focused on Flynn but Cassandra, Eve, Ezekiel, Jacob and Jenkins weren't in them and had Flynn with Judson and Charlene. With a lot of the shows on the Syfy Channel I think the problem is they don't run long enough and are cut short too early and there have been a lot of angry fans who have stopped watching the channel after they cancelled shows like 'Haven', 'Continuum', 'Eureka', 'Dark Matter', 'Sanctuary' and 'Warehouse 13', and unlike shows on the CW Network many Sci Fi shows don't get long lives even when they are getting good ratings.
When they cancelled some of those shows I mentioned above a few sites were showing the ratings for the new shows they replaced them with and they weren't getting as much ratings as some of the shows they cancelled were getting in their final seasons but they still cancelled them and I think the Syfy Channel just likes to cancel a heap of shows every now and then to have new ones. '12 Monkeys' has been very different this season and kinda confusing but I am enjoying it so far and think you will too. Ramse doesn't come back as a regular but he still appears in an episode and I thought they would have kept him on until the end 'cause they made out he was one of the mains stars but they killed him off. 'Travelers' is the best show on TV at the moment in my opinion and Mackenzie does an amazing job of playing Marcy and the start of it is very different and you probably won't expect what happens but I won't spoil it for you and will let you find out for yourself. Have you heard about 'Sharp Objects?' We are currently watching it on Showcase and the show is different from other shows we watch but I like it so far and Sydney Sweeney appeared a lot in the latest episode. We haven't watched 'Wynonna Earp' again since I come down with the flu again but I will write more about it when we do.

I had heard of those Librarian movies, DebLovesBeccy, and actually it was HirundoRustica who first told me about them and suggested I check them out, so I got all three movies on Blu-ray pretty cheap and watched them before watching my DVDs of the first season. I liked that Stana Katic from Castle was in the third movie. And I recognised the female leads from the other two movies as well (Sonya Walger I recognised from Lost and Gabrielle Anwar from a few things I'd seen her in). I have heard of Sharp Objects, but don't really have any desire to watch it (not that I could anyway, since it's only available on Pay TV - which I don't have). I will eventually get to Travelers, though. I hope you do get back to rewatching Wynonna Earp after you're feeling better. I'd rewatch the first two seasons myself...except I've got tons of other shows/movies on DVD and Blu-ray to work my way through, so I haven't really got the time to be rewatching things I've already watched when there's loads more that I haven't watched yet. Hope you get over the flu soon and feel better.

No. I had no idea about that movie Chalice but it does look silly and gory which are the two key ingredients to making good Horror movies and as Horror fans Beccy and I will definitely be checking that out when we can. Thanks for letting me know about that and speaking of 'Wynonna Earp' did I tell you the show is returning for a fourth season? We still haven't seen Season 3 and we will have to import the UK version 'cause it sadly doesn't look like it is coming out here anytime soon.
