i like the one in GHOSTWRITER. he asks if ewen mcgregor wants a repeat drink. and then he cares for the patron by asking "anything to eat"? a bartender can be likes ones mother. nursing a person along. "clam chowder or club sandwich?". i love that scene from GHOSTWRITER. i often rewind to watch it over and over again. the actors name is GLEN CONROY.

pimpinainteasy OK, odd subject, but my first thought is of all things... ...Brian Donlevy's Dan McGinty in Sturges's The Great McGinty ('40), who ends up tending bar in some dive south of the border. (I couldn't find a picture of him as a bartender, though, unfortunately.)

'Burt' (Frank Orth) -- THE BIG CLOCK (makes up a green clock for Milland) 'Lloyd' (Joe Turkel) -- THE SHINING (Jack's money is no good at the Overlook Bar) 'Nat' (Howard daSilva) -- THE LOST WEEKEND ('One's too many and a hundred's not enough') 'Mac' (Karl Malden) -- THE GUNFIGHTER (He knew Ringo in Dodge City) 'Slattery' (William Bendix) -- BOYS NIGHT OUT ('How bad is he hooked?')
And a special spot for 'Murray the Bartender' in THE SHOOTIST -- the final person to do in the Duke

And who could forget this fine fellow, whether he's at Martini's in Bedford Falls or his own Nick's in Pottersville?

And who could forget this fine fellow, whether he's at Martini's in Bedford Falls or his own Nick's in Pottersville? Best of them all, Salz!!! The two faces of Nick:
Friendly barkeep who offers to find George a ride home.
Nasty barkeep ('Out you two pixies go -- through the door or through the window!')

And, since I have been enjoying the retro TV boards, permit me, please, to submit Jackie Gleason as Joe the Bartender and Frank Fontaine as Crazy Guggenheim.

A few not mentioned: Way Out West (1937) James Finlayson mans the bar... ...when not being ripped off by employee James C. Morton... ...with his rigged-to-under-ring cash register. Casablanca (1942) Leonid Kinskey as love-smitten Sascha State Of the Union (1948) Irving Bacon as "sees all, knows all" Buck happily mixes Sazeracs Easter Parade (1948) Clinton Sundberg as Mike dispenses sympathetic platitudes to Fred Astaire and Judy Garland Anatomy Of A Murder (1959) Murray Hamilton as hostile Alphonse Paquette fends off inquisitive Jimmy Stewart

(I couldn't find a picture of him as a bartender, though, unfortunately.) Is this the scene? Brian Donlevy as barman? Not a lot of alcohol in evidence, though. We can compensate with this: Add more alcohol
