There is no faith in the studio.
Parents see a certain product in Disney that tells them the animated stuff will deliver for their kids.
Marvel carries the connotation the movie will be enjoyable.
I had to tell a co-worker to skip JL. He would not enjoy it. Another co-worker stepped in to say he loved it, but honestly it was 3.5 stars out of 5 which the guy in question wasn't going for.

Yet these movies continue to sell amazingly on home video. Which actually costs more money than seeing it at the theater in most cases. But I also suspect JL will have good legs at the box office.
