Lets make a running list of pointless and forgettable remakes of good movies that have been far worse than the original. It seems more of them are made every year. I'll start.
The Magnificent 7 Point Break Red Dawn Robocop A Nightmare on Elm Street Fright Night The Taking of Pelham 123 Ghostbusters Total Recall Rollerball
I'll pause there. Feel free to add more.

Apparently, the "running list" idea got tossed aside. So, in the interest of honoring the wishes of the OP, I will compile a list of the titles suggested so far.

Great call on all of these. None of these flicks added anything memorable to the story and in fact were generally lousy movies.

A lot of those mentioned so far are re-adaptations rather than remakes of actual films.
I will add The Fog.

Planet of the apes 2001 was a good attempt no? I'm afraid I thought it was awful. Maybe they were trying but they failed IMO.

I'm referring to the 2016 remake of the 1960 classic titled The Magnificent 7. Personally, I don't consider The Magnificent 7 to be a remake of 7 Samurai. I consider it to be more inspired by 7 Samurai. I think of it the same way that I think West Side Story is inspired by Romeo and Juliet and not an actual remake. I guess it is a potato potAHto thing.

Ben Hur (of the 1959 version); the silent one from the 1920's is good, but Heston is the seminal Ben Hur. Exodus Gods and Kings (Ten Commandments - same thing, the silent one was good, but Heston IS Moses) Clash of the Titans 3:10 to Yuma True Grit Scarface (the 1930's original was just better) Amityville Horror Halloween Arthur Nutty Professor Night of the Demons Parent Trap Freaky Friday Poltergeist Red Dawn Rear Window Shaggy Dog Straw Dogs Thomas Crown Affair Alfie Vanishing Point
