Depression, Social Anxiety Disorders and so forth.
If you've been diagnosed with something like that if they had a pill that would cause the symptoms to disappear completely BUT you're then subject to constant physical pain would you take the pill?

No. Why the hell would I trade one symptom for another? You’re still going to be miserable either way. The devil you know!

The answer to your question is a big NOOOOOOO. I just had a pain near my gall bladder a few days back and I felt miserable all the time. It pained all through the day and I only got relief when I woke up the next morning. Mental anxiety and depression is bad but you can live through them.

You can also live through pain.

It's difficult to compare mental pain to physical pain, and if neither type of suffering can be allieviated, I'm not sure what basis you could have for substituting one for the other.
I have a hunch that most people would tend to be dismissive of debilitating mental suffering if they haven't experienced those issues first hand, whereas almost everyone can at least imagine what it would be like to be in crippling physical pain.
