Ahhh I wouldn't call the MCU with its 17 movies beating the DCEU crushing it. The DCEU has only had 5 movies (two of which should have never been made) which is the equivalent of the MCU's 'Iron Man', 'The Incredible Hulk', 'Iron Man 2', 'Thor' and 'Captain America: The First Avenger.' Until the MCU can actually beat movies of the Batman, Green Arrow, Supergirl, Teen Titans, Birds of Prey, Martian Manhunter, Batgirl, Nightwing, Justice Society of America, Zatanna, Batwoman, Gen 13, Wild Cats, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Power Girl, Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Black Canary, Raven, the Legion of Superheroes, Doom Patrol etc they haven't beat anything and with the addition of the Bat Family to the Batman movies which Geoff Johns confirmed will happen for the very first time on screen the likes of the Spoiler, Orphan, Red Robin, Batwoman, Clayface, Bluebird, Red Hood, Hawkfire etc will be the real gamechanger with DC movies. Wonder Woman is the most successful female lead comic book movie of all time and while I like Marvel and a number of their female characters none of their female lead movies would even be able to compete with proper movies of Supergirl (Linda Danvers), Birds of Prey, Batgirl, Zatanna, Raven, Starfire, Batwoman, Black Canary, Power Girl etc. Marvel have yet to even beat Teen Titans which is DC's biggest selling team series and DC's equivalent of X Men.

Well they certainly have crushed them critically. But comparing the first 5 movies of each makes sense in one respect, the comparisons looks different when you see what each film was up against... 2013 - Iron Man 3 did better critically and financially than Man Of Steel. Thor Dark World did better critically and was close to equalling Man Of Steels gross 2016 - Captain America Civil War did better critically and financially than BvS and Suicide Squad. Doctor Strange did better critically 2017 - Spider Man: Homecoming, GOTG2 and in all likliehood Thor Ragnarok beat Wonder Woman financially. SMH and Thor's critical reception is comparable to WW. Justice League is unlikely to make as much money as any of this years Marvel films, and is one of the worst reviewed of both franchises Regardless of who was/is/will be big selling comics for DC, the fact is DC have used their biggest guns and for the most part underperformed, disappointed and in some cases been "crushed". To say Marvel "haven't beat anything" because they haven't performed against a list of DC characters that may never make it to screen makes no sense at all. You can't deny Marvel's current success based on comparisons with films that don't, and may never, exist. Comic sales do not reflect film attendance or film popularity. And just because the comic may be great doesn't mean the film will be. On paper would anyone have expected GOTG to do better than JL? An Iron Man film to do better than a Superman film? Captain America and friends to do better than Batman & Superman on screen together?

The DCEU has only had 5 movies (two of which should have never been made) Whoops. You had a major typo there. An accurate statement would have read "five of which should have never been made"

Regardless of who was/is/will be big selling comics for DC, the fact is DC have used their biggest guns and for the most part underperformed, disappointed and in some cases been "crushed". That is where I disagree with you. ‘Suicide Squad’ by no stretch of the imagination is one of DC’s ‘big guns’ and isn’t even one of their top 5 biggest selling team series. Teen Titans, Birds of Prey, Justice Society of America, Gen 13, Wildcats and the Legion of Superheroes all have higher all time sales than ‘Suicide Squad’ and are far more popular. ‘Suicide Squad’ was one of the worst choices to use for the third movie in the DCEU and literally no one I know that knew them including my Brother-In-Law who said it was a shitty choice wanted a movie of the ‘Suicide Squad’ over ‘Teen Titans.’ It was lucky to even make over $200 so I don’t find the MCU beating ‘Suicide Squad’ impressive at all as I expected the movie to flop ‘cause it was a poor choice from the beginning. Aquaman and Cyborg aren’t big guns either and Cyborg hasn’t even had 40 comic books out and only recently got a solo series after all of the previous attempts were very short lived.
Again, I don’t know anybody outside of comic book fans and a few fans who remembered their guest appearances in ‘Smallville’ who knew who Aquaman and Cyborg were before the ‘Justice League’ movie and a lot of people thought ‘Cyborg’ was a remake of the Van Damme movie when it was announced he was getting a solo movie. Cyborg’s biggest claim to fame is being a member of ‘Teen Titans’ which is what he should have debuted in. I wrote on this forum before if ‘Justice League’ flopped it would be ‘cause of the inclusion of Aquaman and Cyborg, the lack of Superman promotion (a lot of people didn’t even know he was going to be in the movie and still don’t) and picking a villain whose name is more well known for being a band who sang, ‘Born To Be Wild’ over a more popular villain like Braniac. ‘Justice League’ is supposed to be a team of DC’s biggest and well known superheroes and the movie could have been if they had used bigger names like Supergirl, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter and Black Canary who have all been part of the group in the comic books but they chose Aquaman and Cyborg. That is not to say they shouldn't have movies 'cause I think all of them do but I disagree with them being used in the first 'Justice League' movie and believe Warner Bros' should have used their big guns.
Names like Supergirl, Green Arrow, Batgirl, Martian Manhunter, Robin, Catwoman Teen Titans, Birds of Prey are DC’s big guns below Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman and I do not know a single person who hasn’t heard of them and it ranges from children to people in their 80s and ‘Teen Titans’ is not only their biggest selling team series it has had 2 successful animated TV shows and animated movies and is a bigger draw than Suicide Squad, Aquaman and Shazam and should already have a live action movie. Green Arrow has more than twice the sales of Aquaman and is a far, FAR more popular and well known character and he is a member of the Justice League in the comic books in the lineup with Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, Stargirl and Hawkman. Warner Bros has been bad decision after bad decision and choosing incompetent Hollywood screenwriters to write superhero movies over the creators and writers who earn a living writing these characters and know their history and all the ins and outs about them was their biggest mistake from the start. There have been a lot of experienced writers like Paul Dini, Gail Simone, Marv Wolfman, Tim Seeley, Peter David, Chuck Dixon, Jimmy Palmiotti, Scott Snyder etc have all said they want to write the movies and have written scripts for movies but Warner Bros wouldn’t give them a chance. Jimmy Palmiotti has taken ‘The Monolith’ to Lionsgate to write it himself and ‘The Monolith’ is a DC title.
Instead of using these writers they insulted them by employing Hollywood screenwriters who are not experienced enough with the source material to write decent movies about superheroes and they seem to forget the only reason they have these superheroes is ‘cause of their creators and the comic book writers that have come up with stories that have kept them alive all these years. Paul Dini showed a few years ago he could have written one of the greatest superhero movies ever made with ‘Arkham Asylum’ and ‘City’ which have been hailed by many DC AND Marvel comic book writers and fans as the best on screen adaptions ever made of Batman but did Warner Bros hire Paul Dini to write the next Batman movie? No, they went with some lame Hollywood guy like Zack Snyder who ironically isn’t half as good a writer as Scott Snyder who wrote some of the greatest Batman stories of all time.
So when it comes down to it Marvel didn’t beat DC, Warner Bros beat DC themselves by making bad decisions and being incompetent. DC management and DC writers should be writing these movies. Ironically DC have already won in every other field outside of the movies and they won in the main field by having the biggest selling superheroes of all time, they won with TV shows with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Lois and Clark being the most popular superhero shows of all time, they won with the animated movies and they won with the video games with the Arkham franchise but the movies show they should be left for the professionals who run DC's main department.

An accurate statement would have read "five of which should have never been made" No. That was not a typo. Regardless of quality Superman, Wonder Woman and Justice League all deserved to have movies in the DCEU but 'Suicide Squad' should have been held off to at least Phase 4 and Batman and Superman should have never appeared in a movie together until we got at least 3 new Batman and Superman movies and they established the Bat Family and Supergirl in the DCEU before moving on to other characters.

But who are probably the 5 most famous, recognisable comic book characters from DC & Marvel - I'd say Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man and The Joker. Those, prior to the DCEU and MCU are probably the most well known, recognisable in general, outside the comic book readership ..and Suicide Squad had the Joker. He may not have turned out to have as big a role as exp[ected, but was a major selling point (and I'm sure the film having one of the most bankable Hollywood actors was a great help too). Whether the biggest or lowest selling team series is really not a major factor. You are lucky if a comic sells around 100,000+ copies per issue. Event comics usually do, but ongoing series....out of the 5 figure range is rare. So at a max that is 100,000 people, almost the same ones every month, that buy that comic. Studios might want to keep those people happy, but their priority is the non-comic reading audience...and Joker is a one of those characters known to them. As much as I don't really like using the term "brand" to describe a character, The Joker had "brand recognition"

A 5 minute guest appearance from a character (which was known before the movie came out) isn't going to get many people going to see a movie. Comic books have appearances from big superheroes like that all the time including the smaller series and it hardly ever makes their sales go up and I don't even remember the Flash being in 'Suicide Squad' so that is how big appearance must have been. A lot of fans hated the Joker's new look before the movie came out too and were angry over Margot not speaking with the traditional Harley Quinn accent so they tarnished both character's chances of drawing.

Marvel Side
Spider-Man X Men (Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm in particular) The Incredible Hulk The Fantastic Four Captain America Iron Man Blade Men In Black Spider Woman Thor Green Goblin Doctor Octopus Venom
Those are the characters most people I know have heard of and Green Arrow's popularity has increased a lot in the last 10 years thanks to 'Smallville' and 'Arrow' and as said by DC he has gone from being one of their lesser knowns to one of the biggest names in the company. I don't expect Shazam, Aquaman, Cyborg or Black Adam to draw as much as a Green Arrow or Supergirl movie and my Brother in Law thinks they get what they deserve if the movies flop for betting on the wrong horses.
