The 2002 was better, yes. And the comic book that is out now downplays some of the "corn". But ultimately its still too rife with childish things. There's a dude called He-Man in it for crying out loud. It has a talking cat that the guy can ride. And don't get me started on Orko. Plus, why's it called Masters of the Universe anyway? None of them are masters of anything, much less the entire universe. He-Man would end multiple episodes by throwing his enemy into the distance over a mountain range! It was great when we were kids, but now... its just too much. lol 1. This is simply untrue. There's nothing childish about that comic book that came out a few years ago. 2. You keep saying things like too childish or too much โ don't you watch comic book movies? 1. Refer to what I bolded and outlined. The answer to your question was already there. And I wasn't only referring to ONE comic where they did a somewhat grittier version. I'm referring to the property overall. It's called HE-MAN! Come on!
2. Of course I watch comic book movies. And amongst them are properties that LEND themselves much more easily to live action movies or TV with less suspension of disbelief than others... Example: Arnold Schwarzenegger in two separate roles - Terminator and Mister Freeze. In one he was awesome. In the other he helped to ruin a franchise.
As I said in another post, I don't think this movie is impossible to make, but its going to take a lot of scrubbing to get it right. So much so that I can already hear the complaints of "this isn't He-man and the Masters of the Universe!"
p.s. have you seen the guy they cast as He-Man? Does that give you confidence?

You cant tell me its not true. Its my opinion. Opinions differ. On this particular topic ours do.
Yes, I watch comic book movies and the modern day ones know how to gloss over the more corny elements of their comic book stories; which in turn has been reflected in the comics themselves by the way.
But there's only so much you can do with a guy called HE-MAN. The movie CAN be made, but some fairly drastic changes would have to be made to make it believable or acceptable to a modern adult audience (adult because they're the ones who "pay"). And like I said before, if you change too much then the audience will complain about that. Whoever takes it on is taking on a no win scenario.
However, if Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg was doing it I might be more willing to take it seriously.
And everyone knows those can never be wrong. Way to avoid every OTHER point made in the post.

What did you just wake up from a coma or something?
I am though. I'm responding directly to this comment:
That's 100% untrue. It sounds like you didn't even read it. This is not a kids book:

Leave it to DC to turn He-Man into something grim-dark. Why can't it just be a movie for kids?

Leave it to DC to turn He-Man into something grim-dark. Why can't it just be a movie for kids? "It's a deconstruction of kiddie entertainment. An intellectual exercise in interrogating the mechanics of the sword-and-sorcery genre through the lens of a mature and sophisticated auteur. Not for gluten intolerant soy addicted effeminate man-children."

Masters of the Universe is too corny a property to be made into a serious film. Have any of you seen the cartoon recently? Its awful! It's gonna suck no mater what. They'd have to change it drastically to make it remotely good, and then people will complain that its not Masters of the Universe. It's a no win situation, imo. This Netflix crap...oh, this is She-Ra.
