Sweet Potato The sweet potato is a dicotyledonous plant that belongs to the bindweed or morning glory family, Convolvulaceae. YAM Yam is the common name for some plant species in the genus Dioscorea that form edible tubers. In parts of the United States and Canada, "yam" is sometimes used to refer to varieties of the unrelated sweet potato. In New Zealand it's a whole other veggie.
My local grocery had BOTH in separate bins and for slightly different prices so I figured I'd buy some of each and compare them. AFTER I had checked out, I saw the produce manager re-stocking BOTH from the SAME BAG of sweet potatoes.

what a sneaky guy! If you caught him in the act and told him that, he'd probably just shrug and say, "I yam what I yam." lol

ZolotoyRetriever"I yam what I yam."
Perhaps he should be popped in the eye ?
anyway.. cooked "both" .. peeled ... sliced with a little water and put in the oven until they tested done. Nothing added except a little butter towards the end. The water tasted like it had brown sugar added.
No need to add sugar or marshmallows.
