Who have been some of your favorite horror hosts? The only prominent one right now is Svengoolie. I do like the show, and I watch it regularly, but I wouldn't say that he is my favorite host.
The first host I remember was Elvira. She was great for two obvious reasons, but I think my favorite was Joe Bob Briggs. He loved the movies, and so his jokes making fun of the movies never came off as mean spirited.
Here in Wisconsin, we also had Ned the Dead for many years. I didn't like Ned, as he isn't a fan of the movies, but I did like his sidekick in Dr. Moreau.
On various TV Land-like channels, I've seen a number of horror-hosted shows, one show out of Detroit featuring a Werewolf as the host. I didn't like that show, as I found its tone to be to spoof-like. And another show I saw was out of Pittsburgh. It had a variety of cast members dressed up as scary characters. They did a lot of skits and told a lot of jokes (diamonds are a ghoul's best friend), and I really did like that show.
I guess you can count Gilbert Gottfrid with USA Up All Night. I loved that show as well.
Who were your favorites and why?

I loved that show as well. Who were your favorites and why? My favorite was Dr. Shock. His show was called Dr. Shock's X Ray Chiller Theatre. He was out of Toledo, Ohio and was on the air from 1989-92. I used to watch him every Saturday night. The one out of Detroit that you're talking about is Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive In. I used to watch that on RTN a few years ago. I watch Svengoolie every once in a while, but his show is a bit too polished for me. Part of the charm of my favorite Horror hosts was that low budget homemade feel.

Wolfman Mac. That's right, and I also saw it on RTN. I agree about Svengoolie. I also don't like his sense of humor, but he's all I have now. Svengoolie also plays way too many Universal monster films. I'd prefer a few public-domain films or films from the 70s every once in a while. Only so many times can you watch the same film before you tire of it.

When i was a kid I watched Joe Bob Briggs Drive In Theatre...always liked him. He did another show after i think.
I think Elvira hosted another show that was on a different channel around the same time, prob saturday nights. I used to flip between them i think.

Yeah Svengoolie and Wolfman Mac are pretty much all that's left these days. I like them both a lot but I've seen better. Horror hosts are awesome and need to make a comeback. That would be one of my dream jobs too, by the way,

That would be one of my dream jobs too, by the way, I don't think Wolfman Mac is on anymore. His show was taken off the air and according to what I've read on the web it is no longer in production. There is a channel available on the roku box that has some newer horror hosts. I've been thinking of picking one up to check it out. There is also a website that streams public domain movies and horror hosts as well. www.freeundergroundtv.com click on untvlive to catch the live stream. They also have untvnow which is like an on demand type thing. You can watch whatever host you want. I was watching it a couple of years ago and stumbled onto a horror host that filmed his show in a town about 30 min from where I live. It aired on a public access channel that I don't get in my town.

They were fun. I'm not saying that his sense of humor ruins the program for me or even that I dislike his sense of humor, but in general, the off-camera comments that he reacts to often makes me feel like I'm watching a '90s Saturday morning kids show like "Beakman's World." It's just too wacky and over-stimulating for my tastes.

And let's not forgot that other Detroit horror host, the vampire Sir Graves Ghastly. Loved that laugh!
